Saturday morning thoughts - Lola update, new food and an old favourite.

in #foodlast year

Good morning folks!

I've not been that active on Hive this week due to things being mega busy at work. Quite typical really for that last week before you have a few weeks off (YIPPEEE!).

The week ended with Lola needing a trip to the vets yesterday morning. It feels ages ago that I was able to share photos of our morning walks along the beach. They had to stop due to Lola damaging her cruciate ligament late last year so something we've been trying to manage. Things got worse this last week with Lola not being able to put weight on that leg so I thought it time to arrange to get the issue fixed surgically. Although a straight forward procedure, Lola will need around 3 months to recover. The poor pooch hasn't been on a walk for the past two days as there's a risk we'll cause the same issue on the other leg due to it having to take more pressure.

Thankfully the vet things she has just twisted her leg as opposed to the issue getting worse. The joint felt swollen but wasn't particularly unstable - excellent! £138 later and a pile of anti inflammatory medication and she already seems to be doing much better to the point we managed a short walk at the park this morning.

She was still a little out of sorts yesterday afternoon though and gave me the impression she was far from impressed with her little trip to be prodded and poked at the nasty surgery.

We had some really heavy showers over night and the forecast for today is, well soggy. It started to spit a little as we left the house but thankfully the rain held off. It didn't look like it was going to stay dry for long!

It was also a good time to try out my new walking boots which I bought yesterday. I'm not sure the old ones are meant to have this level of air conditioning!

I think this pair only lasted around 12 months so I was a little disappointed to replace them already. Saying that, they've covered a good number of miles in that time. This time around I didn't go for an expensive pair but had a good mooch around Sports Direct which offers some pretty good discounts. My new boots performed well and it was so nice to get home with dry feet for once!

Food wise we've had some really nice meals. Yesterday we had Pad Thai noodles which is one of my favourites but not a meal we have that often. I've never really been able to make it myself and Thai food seems to be really expensive as a take away. Our local Co Op has a little Pad Thai pack made by Sherwoods. I think it's the second time I've used one and this one was really REALLY good. The pack contains the noodles, peanuts and sauce, I just needed to add an egg, protein (chicken or prawns) and bean sprouts. We went with prawns.

Another nice meal was a cheese burger rice bowl which was from Hello Fresh. I forgot to cancel the order last week so we've had a little more meat than usual as I received the default menu as I'd not changed the meals. This was simply beef mince fried off with some garlic, seasoning, ketchup and a dash of water. It's serviced with grated cheese, burger sauce, salad and rice. A very tasty alternative to a burger in a bun.

I was a bit naughty and got a pain aux raisin in the week. I absolutely love the soft, slightly gooey centre in contrast to the crispy outside. It didn't last very long!

Anyway, I need to crack on now. It's time to make another mug of tea and meditate for 10 mins. Then I think l'll feel ready to start the day ahead and my two weeks off work.

Sort:

Poor Lola. Pets just don't understand what is going on when they are unwell. I hope she can get more active again.

You always seem to eat well in your house. We are fans of the meal boxes from various sources as it gives us more variety.

Enjoy your break.

Poor Lola, one indignity after another, hope she is better soon.

Lovely to see those skies again!
I got my walking boots in 1989 and I gave them away a couple of months ago - scuffed but still robust! I think they may be making their way to Zambia in a container.

Those meal in a pack are good, aren't they, you don't need to have a cupboard full of ingredients. I tried a new burger place on Thursday - tasty garnishes and excellent chips but the burger and bun were a let down. A burger rice bowl sounds like a better idea, I've also seen a burger pasta bake that looked pretty good 😊

Hope you have a fabulous couple of weeks off work.

She isn't happy bless her. Unfortunately the only way she'll get back to anywhere near normal is with the surgery so we'll aim to get that sorted over winter.

We have a shoe container up the road so I'll look at donating my old boots. I think they can be beyond their best. Something with a bit of a hole is a good move up for somebody who has nothing. It won't feel right lobbing them in the bin.

The burger rice bowl is definitely a keeper. I often find burgers a disappointment - they often look so good but then don't quite deliver. The burger pasta bake sounds quite delicious!

I think that's tea sorted for tonight 🙂
