Poor Voyager! What a disaster. I just went to the mechanics where i left the car saturday night, luckily it didnt rain since then and nobody stole anything more.
The car was left for over 2 weeks with no window and it was raining a lot. A sack of sweetcorn had previously fallen over ages ago, and had started to grow everywhere. It had electoral problems and it took weeks to find a tow service to take it to the mechanics in the city.
On saturday, I managed it, got a tow truck, which turned out to be 12m and i knew it wouldnt ever get past the mountain road corners. As predicted we had yo go tow it down with a smaller 4x4, and then put it on the tow truck. I packed what was left of the funiture outside the shop, the 2 matresses were wet and smelling of mould and a few things like a scrap fridge had to be strapped to the tow truck.
I had all my powertools stolen like 800 usd worth, plus all my hand tools- and I had only told and shown one person who had offered to help me to bring up some furniture from the land to the village to sell. Just to then confirm who the thief was, just before i left on saturday i said to the guy helping that i still need to come back for some thongs. He asked me what thongs and i told him, and then on moday when i came back, of course those things were stolen too.
I thought really that they were good people. They own one of the shops on the village and seemed nice people. Shame they are blatently thieving, at least they are not intelligent to even know what they were stealing, I found the chargers for all the powertools still there haha..
On monday I arrived thinking I would just come and leave with no issues (haha) i got the car stuck when i went to the land because everything is green and looks different, i overshot the turning of where i can turn around with having no reverse gear working on the car. Idiot.
So the car was stuck very well in the bushes, i went to walk up to the ridge which takes an hour, and then down to the nieghbors place but he wasnt in. By this time i had walked two hours up very steep roads and it was around 7pm. I see the storms were coming so it was to be the first time to spend a night on the car seat at the Internet spot under a big piece of plastic. Dam it was uncomfortable but I was dry.
Then at 5am, was standard time to start the 10km walk to the village to get help. I say standard as i had done that a few times already before at 5am.
Again I had to spend the night waiting for the rain to pass and for the day to come to go get help for the car. After again walking around the village asking everyone for help, it didnt seem that anyone had time to earn some Quick money. Everyone went to work and then i managed to get offered help from the guy i sold my wheelbarrow too, and is alway making good jokes.
At 10am we went with a chain in his 4x4 to get the car. José is like 1meter tall. Ok 1.4m to be more generous? He needs a booster seat and i am not sure how he sees anything over the dashboard
It started to piss it down with rain but had finished by the time we got to the car. It had the last of the salvagable things from the mud in it, and totally stinks of mould. The whole car needs a very good cleaning to save it. Rainy season with nothing dry means mould. After some attempts but with a lot of sliding around, we had the car in a better postion and was close to getting it out.
This was when I decided to be a total idiot and fuck things up..
I had to move the chain and disconnected it from the truck. All good for a few seconds before the car started to move a bit. I presumed it was just settling in gear as there was slack on the chain when I took it off, but then the car rolled off very fast down the hill. I had left it in neutral. American cars HAVE NO HANDBRAKES. They have a foot brake, but the one on the car hasnt ever worked and I dont even know how they work neither.
The car rolled 30m into the undergrowth, so we left and went back to the village empty handed. It was around midday by now and it was clear I would be soending another day in the village
Today is now wednesday. José gave me some weed and a bed for the night, both of which was needed badly. I went to the bed at 8pm last night totally shatteredand with my legs hurting alot from no sleep and then the long walk. I couldnt get to sleep though, was restless in the head, and then realised I must have been the otherside of the wall to a smart meter. Sure enoungh, 1.5m away on the outside of the house, there was one. Call me psycic.
I took the matresse onto the floor and moved 10m away across rhe room and fell asleep straight away. Im not sure how many people have insomnio from smart meters and dont know whats causing it.
Its now 9.20am, and at 4pm we should be going to get the car. Im hoping for zero rain so i will be able to drive out. If the ground is wet then there is no chance. I might be sure and get towed up from the river to be certain i get out today, once im on the ridge road its all good, but after seeing the land road yesterday, i dont think id be able to drive out in a front wheel drive car.
I went back to the bed and woke up at 3.30pm caught up with slepp but aching all over still. It would be 6.30pm when we would go with the winch. But atleast we did actually go! The winch wasnt working the pulling direction, of course, and I thought I'd end up stuck there for ages again.
We got back down to the village WITH the car, at 9.30pm! 3 hours it took as it was so wet and slippery. No chance I would have got out if it wasnt for the winch on a jeep. As i was driving along thevridge road the engine changed sound and the car lost power. I got down to the village long before the jeep did, made a joint, said thanks, and drove back to the mechanics 30mph all the way lol.
Wrapping this post up on thursday lol wow. I need a less active life style
End now hahaha
