I generally try to stay away from topics that can get under my skin and irritate me but as I was going through my email today I came across some attention grabbing headlines.
The first was this article on a possible subscription based mouse. I do not understand the whole thing, but apparently it will have an integrated circuit or micro-controller with proprietary programming on it that will require software updates. The ceo compares this to a watch that you buy with the intention of never throwing it away. smh 🤣🤣 She forgot, that watch does not need a subscription service.
Who among you would be willing to shell out your money for such a thing? I know I would rather learn programming and create my own tech.
Then there was this email...
I'm sorry. Did they say they had an OPEN SOURCE AI?
Show me where I can see this marvel and it's code.
And that leads me into the third article I read from my email.
Apparently ther EU has been working on this AI law since 2020. Two full years before chat gpt was a public thing. I guess artificial intelligence was in the works in private long before most of society knew about it.
The point of this article though, or what I took from it is that the EU has made a law that american ai companies are not willing to conform with, without having to change their product. I find this very interesting. Since I just came across this article this morning I have not had the chance to really delve into what is in this AI Act and whether it is a good thing or a bad thing for the people
I guess this a is something worth keeping an eye on for those who approve of ai and maybe even for those ai haters.
Once again I re-iterate... It is a tool. Nothing more. If ai took all the jobs who would buy the products companies sell?
