How I became a writer

Actually, I wasn’t interested in writing when I was in elementary. Being the top student of the batch, I was used to being sent in whatever competitions my school would like to join, be it in Science, Math, English, Writing, Reading, etc. I was only fond of computing problems way back then because it gives me a different kind of thrill when I encounter a math problem. I like the challenge of solving it and I won’t stop until I get the correct answer and be satisfied. Learning a lot of things in computing math problems kept me agitated as a student who’s thirsty of knowledge.

There was a time when my school decided to join campus journalism and of course they’ll be needing representatives for each event. As a 10-year old girl, who knew nothing about the world of writing, I was scared. My teacher just left me with a paper and pen, instructing me to write an article. It was all so sudden that I felt alarmed because I was clueless. It was the first time that my teacher assigned me with something and I don’t have any idea what to do. I was left there sitting alone in my chair, eyes wandering around the room and mind travelling somewhere.

Suddenly, my eyes caught a corner of our classroom and I stood up to get the paper which is the only hope I got to survive that unknown battle. It was our school paper. It was entitled, “The Evergreen.” Since it felt like the only way to escape my misery, I started reading the paper and then after a while, I learned the style that was used in writing the paper.

I started grabbing the paper and pen on the table and started to create a story of my own, a news story.

That’s how I became a writer.
It’s kind of weird and funny right?

I started as a news writer and through my campus journalism journey, I was able to explore different kinds of writing like feature, editorial, column, etc. and my favorite was feature writing because it let me pour my imagination into a story that other people can find entertainment. I have that bright eyes and wide grin whenever I am writing and it just shows the excitement within me while doing something I love and proud of.

Writing became my passion and my escape to my own wonderful world from the harsh reality of life.

I started writing to impress my reader and to secure a spot in the competitions and I felt empty that is why I started creating my own.

Writing to express myself became my priority and choosing this made writing my safe haven.

Anyway, here’s a picture of the last certificate I received from the last competition I joined to! Good old days. :)

This is actually how I started loving to write also. The first event I joined before was News Writing and I almost tried every event. However, I focused on feature writing as I like writing imaginations and expressing emotions way back before. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but the certificate I have from my last contest on journalism, I also won the third place.

Ohhh! That's nice. What a coincidence, but I'm so glad I was able to meet you guys who shares the same passion as me.

Are you still a student? What year are you? It seems that you really love math! Well, we almost have the same story, I mean I had no background in writing until my school sent me to compete in campus journalism but unlike you, I hated writing since that time but started to learn embracing it when I write blogs on several platforms.

Yes po! I'm currently a 4th year student studying BS in Accountancy. Glad to hear that there's someone who love math too and has the same story as me. Nice meeting you :)
