Hydroponic lettuce Update. Day 10-12 days after sowing.

in #garden18 hours ago

Hello everyone, after 10-12 days of planting, this is how my sown lettuce looks now.

Only ten of 48 lettuce seeds germinated. It's a bit disappointing.

My first guess is that the seeds I used, which I got from a store on Shopee (an online marketplace in the Philippines), were too old or simply not excellent seeds in general.

My second one could be because I did not sanitize with hydrogen peroxide and hot water (as I typically do with CocoPeat media). I did not sterilize since I believed that foam-based materials did not require it. A big mistake. Third, I did not pre-nourish the foam with Cal Mag as I usually do with cocopeat; this is because I do not believe the foam medium can store that much magnesium/calcium.

Next time, I'll do it right by sterilizing and applying calmag to a new batch of 48 lettuce seedlings.

At least my Chinese cabbage and kale seedlings are looking good.

2 Kale Seedlings did not germinate. but for the CC, 10/10. Pretty good.

That's all we have thus far. I'll seed again, trying to maintain things as tidy as possible. Proper sterilization and pre-nourishment. Thanks for reading my post. :)
