        Note: James D'Audley was born about 1220 and was keeper of the castle of New Castle under Lyme. He was Sheriff of Salop and County Stafford and Justiciar of Ireland 1270-72. He took an active part on the King's side against the barons in 1264. He married 1244 Ela de Longspee, who brought him the manors of Stratton and Wretchwick in frank marriage. He was thrown from his horse and his neck broken June 11, 1271. His widow died shortly before Nov. 22, 1299
