when dealing with a deceiver, which after all is the meaning of the name Jacob.

I sometimes think Jacob gets a bum wrap when it comes to his name. Jacob was named when he was "grabbing the heel" of Esau. Genesis 25:26

It was his brother who made the accusation that Jacob is a deceiver, stating that he "deceived" or "supplanted" him, but more accurately, he said he "heel grabbed me these two times". Genesis 27:36

Really, it's unfair to Jacob. That wasn't really the intention of his name "Jacob". Also Jacob didn't come up with the deception, but it was Rebekkah their mother who came up with the deception (at least the second one) and Jacob obeyed his mother's words.
