Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
On a typical Saturday I try as much as I can to rest and recharge my energy for the new week but today was filled with activities from the start of the day till late this evening. It is one of those days that every minute passby with one thing or the other to do. I woke up quite early due to the pain from my menstrual cramps - I could not sleep so I had to just watch movies on the bed to pass time. So, as early as 5am I went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the family.
I started the process of preparing moi moi - a Nigerian dish made from beans and other ingredients like peppers, onions, oil, crayfish etc. I had to start as early as possible because it takes quite some time to prepare it. The process includes peeling the shaft of the beans and grinding it into a smooth puree. Then once the mixture is ready other ingredients such as crayfish, seasoning, oil etc can be mixed with it (thoroughly). Afterwards, you pour the mixture into either your leaves or containers and steam until it's done.
By the time I had sorted breakfast, I began cleaning and putting the house in order. The task was of course physically exhausting but the feeling of seeing your house in a good shape, sparkling and smelling nicely was mentally refreshing. I started the process by opening the curtains and allowing fresh air to enter the house, then I began to dust off every corner of the house before sweeping and mopping the floor. I took out time to scrub the bathroom as well.
My next stop was my shop! Luckily for me my shop is right beside my house so I didn't have to stress too much getting to the shop. I have a set of dress that I wanted to work on the finishing because I have to send it to Lagos alongside with some Kilishi that I want to buy later in the day. The major things I wanted to work on is putting finishing touches to the dresses to ensure that they were in a perfect condition before delivery. So, i spent about two hours in the shop hand-sewing, attaching buttons and ironing some parts of the dresses that needs to be carefully ironed. When it was about 10am my husband called my attention to the time and that we should start getting ready for the main business of the day, which is to go make some purchase of Kilishi.
So, we headed to the Kilishi market which is about 35 minutes drive away from my house. Kilishi is a popular snack in the northern part of Nigeria made from sun-dried spiced beef that is seasoned to perfection. Kilishi can be likened to beef jerky but it has a unique Nigerian touch. This snack is made by marinating thin slices of beef in a mixture of garlic, ginger, chili and grounded peanuts. The Kilishi sellers are known for their mastery of the art of selling. They have the culture of familiarising with customers as they approach as if they have a personal relationship with you. They also welcome you with some slice of Kilishi to taste which they use to convince you that you can get the best snack from them.
On the long run, I was able to purchase the quantity I wanted after haggling for the best deal. It is important to have a good negotiation skills if you want to get a good deal from the. market because they don't have a definite measurement - they will only cut out a certain piece of the Kilishi out and tell you this is the price, so it is left for you to negotiate and get a good deal for yourself.
After purchasing the Kilishi, I packaged it neatly with the dresses that i had finished up earlier in the day and headed to the motor park to send them to Lagos for a customer who had ordered for it.
At the end of the day I was happy I was able to accomplish all that i have planned out for the day even though it was stressful. Saturday has come and gone but it's great to know that I made good use of it.
