In Nigeria, there are certain foods that are dear to our hearts and they move from one generation to the other with ease. One of these is a snack known as puff puff, some people call it puff for short. It is a street food/snack that made our childhood especially those days when we were still attending elementary school where we had to use our lunch money to snack on puff puff as we are going to school in the morning.

If you are a Nigerian, you'd definitely be familiar with puff puff. It is one snack that we've all had at one point or the other and some of us still fancy it till date. Just like akara (bean cake) that i talked about in my last post, puff puff is also so sold at strategic locations such as markets, busy bus stops, outside the gate of schools and hospitals etc

Today, I decided to treat my family to some puff puff goodness by preparing it for dinner. My love for Puff puff is not fading off anytime soon. The most intriguing part of it all is that the process was seamless, I was able to finish within 1 hour (excluding the time about an hour that i used to cover the batter to rise).

INGREDIENTS TO PREPARE PUFF PUFF

  • 3 cups plain flour

  • 3 tsp yeast

  • Sugar (according to your taste)

  • Vegetable oil

  • Pinch of salt

  • Warm water

HOW TO PREPARE

  • First and foremost, sieve the flour to remove particles

  • Pour all the dry ingredients inside the flour and mix together

  • In a gradual manner, add the warm water to the bowl and mix all together

  • Next, place the mixture in a warm place for about 1 hour. The effect of this is that the mixture will increase in size, that is if you’re using a good yeast

  • Now, pour your vegetable oil in a deep pot - puff puff is fried using deep frying method

  • Scoop your mixture into the pot full of vegetable oil and fry in batches till it gets golden brown

  • When it’s brown, transfer into your plate and your puff is ready

Puf puf looks so good and the name seems so funny make me think about a fluffy food ❤️❤️

Oh yes 😃
The rhyme in the name makes it more interesting 😁😁

Greetings
I am in Republic of Benin and must confess I ate the similar snack we call here "Doko" earlier this morning.
I love the nostalgic post about puff puff.
It is a nice link in the cultural homemade food heritage people share in the southern country on African continent.

Hello @oadissin, it's nice to know that you're also a lover of this snack. I just checked the word "doko" out online and realised it is the same as puff puff. It is just different names in different countries.
