Well Hello There Horsepower Lovers!!
Now This Is Ugly!
See I think I have been treated wayyyy too kindly at work with all these newer vehicles we have been getting in lately! Seriously treated!
The reason I say this is because when something all buggered up and ugly like this comes into the shop, well then I hardly even want to work on it at all! A bummer right! Because damn I do so love my work!
Okay that's fine we can push through this! Let's just start, I mean more than often it's the just starting that is the problem!
It's A Big Piece!
This is what I have to do!
Trust me it sounds a lot easier than it is! Especially with the 4x4 Nissan's... actually I am lying it's not that hard a task but the weight of everything makes it harder. It doesn't at all even require thinking power! Of-course it's a base job! When we need to put this thing back together is when the thinking power needs to play its part!
Now I have to get this transmission out of there! First I have to remove a great deal of stuff out of the way first! So let's get cracking!
I do know why it rumbled like that! It rumbled like mad! The thing here is that it was starting to eat itself up from the inside! Legitly! Laughs first it ran dry with oil then the rumble came! At-least I assume!
The Favourable Part!
I don't always do this but when I get the chance to sit on my bumm and do some good work! Well I have to say I will take that any day!
Who in this trade can say they can do something sitting on their butt for a while! Yeahp I just did! I pulled out that gearlever and removed some of the transfer case bolts!
She'll be out soon enough!
My little peeping tom hole here! Ah hah! I can shift my tools through this little hole in the body!
A Nasty Look And Smell!
Okay this we knew from the get go, or rather from the point of draining the fluids!
This transmission is completely buggered up! Yeah the oil is one thing but check how the oil started burning to the side of the walls in the casing!
This is after I removed the transfer case from the transmission, this in turn exposed the transmission completely! If you don't drain the oil there then be sure to get some hella dirty oil over your face when removing that transfer case!
It'll be real nasty!
The Cause Of Failure!
So there is two things to this transmission, the cause and the effect!
The cause of it breaking was because slowly over time the oil leaked out of the gearlever housing! Yeahp nasty I tell you! All this damage because a simple rubber seal decided to not work anymore!
Yeahp a one dollar fix into a thousand dollar headache! Can you just imagine that!
The Effect!
So the effect of this break is reallll bad!
Because the oil level dipped with each day, that in turn meant things were running more and more without lube and likely got more heated up in the process as well!
Then one day the cluster bearing decided to just give in and not turn anymore and things went BAMMMMM!
I bet the driver on that day got a real fright thinking he messed up somehow! Dang I would grind my teeth if this happened to me! Luckily this is a state owned vehicle! The state will pay!
It even knocked a great big chunk of the casing from the bell housing!
This is almost a full rebuild so we need to start tearing this one down!
Without Saying!
These.... well these we just have to replace even though they might not be buggered up! This one is buggered up but what I mean is that if we dont they will come crying we did half ass work and me removing the transmission just to fit a new clutch after the rebuild is not something I am going to be fancy of!
Let's replace this now and be done with it!
