I encountered some spiders on my walk through the woods, and I stopped to photograph them.

This is a short chronicle of those arachnid encounters.
I didn't have the good camera that I'm using these days nor any kind of macro equipment so the photographs in today's post are a bit muddled and grainy. But they are still good enough to show some details and convey the overall atmosphere.

The first spider was this Pisaura mirabilis. If you enlarge the photograph by clicking on it and if you take a good look at the details, you may notice a small geometer moth, the Timandra comae, blurred in the background. I wasn't aware of it while taking the photograph, back then in 2015.

Later, while walking along the path shown in this photograph ...
... I noticed what looked like a ghost of a spider. The empty exoskeleton was hanging on the loose threads above the large horizontal web. After a minute or so of staring at the scene ...

... I finally saw the spider underneath the molt.
The name of the species is Agelena orientalis.
Soon the spider entered its den and I continued the walk through the woods.

When I noticed the species shown in this photograph, I reached a relatively large clearance in the forest. The spider has built its horizontal web near the ground, among the grass and various herbaceous plants ...
