Saturday was one of those days where I mainly took small edge coinflips which mostly ended on the right side putting me up on the week. I hope to come across some bigger value bets on Sunday where there are 4 matches...
Kortrijk vs Anderlecht
Kortrijk is the team that I rate the lowest in form over the past 3 matches and the coach change doesn't seem to have changed all too much. They have a hard time to create chances and score goals while defensively they are never without flaws. Their new coach is one who aimed to set the defense straight first which often happens when relegation teams make a switch. Today they are without Nacho who is suspended while 1st Goalkeeper Gunnarsson is also out alung with Fujii and Tsnunoda who normally are in the team. Anderlecht has given off mixed signals as they are a team that clearly has the potential and they played a good cup match which they should have won by a bigger margin. Their coach often makes big tactical blunders while they are also with quite some important injured players. Vertonghen, Stroeykens, Edozie, & Dolbers are normally always starters and Dreyer was recently transferred. So they will play with a semi B-Squad today away on a pitch which likely won't be that good. They do have some new players with Adryelson and Huerta who have potential but I do expect somewhat of a transition period for them. I do see a clear quality difference still between the teams big enough for being willing to take a 0.16 unit risk on
Anderlecht -0.25 @ 1.850. I do expect Anderlecht to be the team with most initiative. Both teams over the last 3 matches are also quite high on xg at 3.17 & 3.06 and I would not be surprised if there were goals on both sides even though both miss their main striker.
Union vs OH Leuven
Union really improved themselves and managed to climb to the 3rd spot in the standings even though the gap is quite big to place 1 & 2. They had the mid-week off as they are no longer in the cup. Last week they played a poor 1st half and a better 2nd half which got them making a comeback to win 1-2. Especially at home they have done ok this season against their handicaps despite the difficult start of the season. The main difference now is that they actually started scoring. OHL so far this season has been rather anonymous with good potential but a lack of scoring power and too much focus on defense. This puts them just above the playdown zone with generally poorer performances away from home. Their xg on both sides are up compared to the last coach and in the last 3 they are at 2.98 while over the season they are only at 2.26. So these are 2 teams that used to have a harder time to score earlier in the season which makes me lean on the over. Union tends to start pretty good and I took 0.2 units on
1st Half Over 1 @ 1.829. I'm also leaning toward Union as the favorite but want to get some kind of confirmation first before getting in on it.
Sint-Truiden vs Standard
The main trend for Standard is that they don't have enough quality so they build a wall focussing fully on defense which they are good at which got them to 28 points so far. If they score the 1st goal they always win and if they fall behind they are left without much chance. I expect a similar match picture today where they just give the ball to the opponent and defend hoping to strike one on the counter. Stvv has a coach with a reputation of being really defensive. When he came first their results were better, but they now have gotten into a losing streak and are in 3rd last place. I simply expect another typical Defensive Standard match and am surprised that the odds went up. I did take in total 0.347 units on
1H Under 1 @ 2.003 along with 0.293 units on
Under 2.5 @ 1.885 and 0.16 units on
Under 2.75 @ 1.810 so a bit more exposure than I want on odds that went up so I will be looking to put some safe along the way if possible. The odds kind of point toward a home win and Standard has to go forward leaving space which will result in more goals. That is the scenario that I kind of fear.
Antwerp vs Westerlo
Antwerp has these matches where they play excellent and they also have enough quality now on the pitch and off the bench. At the same time they also have matches where they don't play that great. This was the case against Anderlecht away in the cup match and the match last week away against Beerschot on a bad pitch. At the same time the match before at home against Union in the cup they put up an excellent performance. So it remains a bit the form of the day for them. Westerlo is a team that has potential but they haven't been performing very well lately with 4 losses and a draw on their last 5 which got them in a playdown spot. This while they should have the quality to comfortably sit in the mid-table. Out of the bottom team they are the one who manage to find the goal the most but they also just get too many goals against. Given the home advantage and the poor form of Westerlo, I had to take a 0.25 unit gamble on
Antwerp -0.25 @ 1.810 which just feels a bit too soft of a line and worth the risk. I'm also tempted by the over as it should be 2 teams who play forward with scoring qualities and not always the tightest defense. I will however wait it out and hopefully get better odds on a high over total.
