Hy everyone, I hope you all are doing great. I will like to try out analyzing football using statistical techniques to see what may be the outcome of the match between France verses Morroco using the data set of 2022 world cup league.
I decided to carry out an analysis of correlation to see which variable influences the goals scored by a team.
But before I continue the analysis, I would present a worksheet of variables used using dataset for the FIFA world cup.
Here is the data view showing the teams, matches played, wins, draws, losses, goals scored, goals against, goal difference and points. Other variables in the spreadsheet are expected goal scored, expected goal conceded and expected goal difference.
The following areas of concern captures my analysis.
Analysis of team by number of goals
The chart below shows the number of goals scored by each team in the FIFA world cup 2022.
It can be visualized that England and Spain had the highest number of goals (9) scored due to their epic strategies in playing team. The team with least number of goals scored are Denmark, Belgium, Qatar, Tunisia and Wales.
Analysis of team by number of points
From the chart above, the team with the highest number of points (7)are; England, Morocco, Netherlands. The team with the least number of points is Canada, Qatar.
Analysis of goal difference verses number of goals scored
I applied an analysis of correlation between the number of goals scored verses goal difference.
From the analysis the higher the goal scored, the higher the goal difference.
From the data France and Morocco had a goal difference of (3) this implies there might be a draw or a non significant difference in goal scored in the finals.
However there might be otherwise if there is a change in team player strategy.
Analysis in number of goals scored and number of matches won
The number of goals scored coefficient to that of matches won is 0.482.
this indeed shows a positive correlation at average level and hence may or may not significicantly influence the number of matches won.
Correlation Matrix
A whole number of factors were considered in a wide array to see which influences the other.
From the second row, number of matches won is highly correlated with number of points. But from that data view France and Morroco had their number of matches won as two and number of points for France was (6) and (7) for Morocco.
However there has been no significant difference between both which may warrant the match to end in a draw.
Number of point is negatively correlated with the rank significantly. From the dataset, France had a rank of 1 including Morocco, this had led to their number of points remain same.
My parting words
The game between France and Morroco scheduled for tonight is a struggle of two lions with no significant difference on their performance as at during the FIFA worldcup and there might be no significant difference in the goal scored by both teams.
