Just before Christmas, Liverpool and Tottenham played an EPL game which was very entertaining and filled with goal galore. A total of 9 goals were scored in that game and Liverpool won by 6 - 3.
Tonight, both sides will be facing each other again in an EFL Cup game. Normally, big teams would rest players for this competition. However, both sides presented their best available XI for this game.
First Half...
This half started with both sides pressing each other with full intensity. However, within just 5 minutes of the game, a very serious injury happened to Bentancur, a Tottenham played. The injury required immediate medical care, and he had to be carried out of the field after that and rushed to a hospital.
The game continued after that and all the intensity that was used in the first few minutes changed. Each team were giving away the ball too easily. There was a lot of sloppy plays from both sides.
Quansah also picked up an injury in this half of the game. His injury doesn't seem to be as bad as the initial one. He was replaced by Endo who really played well for the rest of the first half.
The stoppages in this half ruined the flow of the game. Both sides felt unprepared and that continued until the end of the first half. I've got no complaints though since we didn't concede any goal.
11 minutes extra time was given at the end of the first half because of the stoppages during that half of the game.
Second Half...
The second half of the game was not any different for Liverpool. We struggled to create really good goalscoring opportunities. We also struggled in our defensive line.
I usually watch Liverpool go a game down and still feel convinced about Liverpool's chances of winning that game. However, for the most part of this game, I was never convinced that Liverpool would be winning this games. They were horrible.
Liverpool messed around until Slot decided to do a triple substitution in the 60th minute. He subbed Nunez, Diaz, and Trent into the game at that point.
The goal finally came and it wasn't scored by Liverpool. Tottenham got themselves a really good goal which turned out to be offside. It was ruled out by VAR after a check.
During normal circumstances, that cancelled goal would have served as a wake up call.
Well, not today!
Liverpool sat back and got punished again by Tottenham. This time around, the goal was an undisputable one. No VAR had to be consulted for the goal to be awarded to Tottenham.
The rest of the game ended with this 1-goal lead for Tottenham. Now, all eyes would be in how Liverpool would perform in the second leg of the game which would be played at Anfield.
Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop or Comma.
