Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers!


The day started awfully dull until I got some exciting stuff to work on!

We booked in another one of those fancy Audi Q5's and boy oh boy I love fiddling with those cars!

The one we booked in had a very minor issue when shifting, very minor. In-fact I'm surprised the client even noticed the little slip it makes, let alone the fact that he brought it in for diagnosis.

It can be a lot of things, a little clog in the veins of the valve-body, dirty oil or worse the clutches are starting to fail. Now from the top of my head looking at this valve-body the oil was quite somewhat contaminated and one can see a lot of particles lying around on the valve-body itself.

Whatever may be the cause we shall start with the most sensitive parts first and that is the valve-body.

At-least underneath it doesn't look half as bad as it does on top, none the less we shall have to pull it apart completely and eliminate the valve-body from the list of possible errors.

Okay let's rewind a little, there's a few parts that needs removing before we can get to the point where we are.

The most important part out of all of these, it's so important that I can legitly drop the rest of it from the roof. Everything except the computer. That little silver box, yeah that we want to keep as safe as possible. When the bombs fall I need to grab that and take cover.

The computer and the wiring looms, the looms aren't as important but they need to be removed for us to be able to remove the tower.

We call this the tower, the only reason for that is because we have absolutely no idea what to call it. We know what it does but that doesn't really add any value for us.

Laughs what it does is, it hooks up with the gear selector forks and shifts up or down as needed when it's needed. Nothing special but majorly important. I'll push that sideways for now as we have never ever had any problems with those.

I did skip a few steps here but they were just unbolting the bolts, nothing majorly critical.

Well it's split open and I've not seen gunk so far, but this is where it gets tricky. See the piece with the black on top of it, that is the other half and in between the halves they have a metal plate to regulate the oil into the right holes.

Now one thing I've learned was to never be too hasty with these things, always split the valve-bodies with a lot of care, there are always little goons and plastic parts that can fall out and one would not know how to re-fit them once they've fallen out.

Don't be losing the valuables.


Two small filters hidden within the valve-body, facing down. Absolutely have to remember that facing down part.

A lot of small parts to keep safe, most bolt down on the outside of the valve-body. But losing them is a big no no.

Okay so all of the small parts that can easily get tiny little feet and walk away have been tucked in safely and I can now proceed by washing these bodies out thoroughly.

See why it had to be opened because of all those little pockets of trapped oil inside. Well giving the oil a look one won't say it's dirty. Might be that the clutches of the vehicle are starting to fail.

We will find out soon enough.

We have this little makeshift contraption at work with a little fuel pump and a big bucket. Whenever we have to wash out these bodies we just chuck them in there and well wash away with ease.

If there is one thing I'm certain of in life is that I know I'm well over working with paraffin or diesel. Yet I have to endure it for a lifetime to come.

We are getting there! All of the bodies are now washed and cleaned now I have to dig into all those smaller parts I showed earlier. Yeahp they have to be flushed as well, now one thing we must not do is wash the computer. Keep that thing well away from any sort of fueling substance.

It would certainly be the end of it.

Doesn't it look absolutely beautiful when these aluminum parts are thoroughly cleaned.

She's all closed up and I can now slowly add all the smaller parts bit by bit as it needs.

I'm quite keen to see if this would fix the problem, I do highly doubt it since I didn't really find any gunk inside the valve-body.

But with this and a clean fresh oil change, you never know. They do love to get a oil change every now and then.

Well friend, it is possible that with the work you have done, the little flaw will disappear. I tell you that although I don't know much about automatic transmissions, I know that impurities in the oil can cause failures. I remember a friend topped up the oil level in his car, but he used poor quality oil, the oil level dropped due to a damaged sump, the truth is that the oil he added in less than two weeks caused a failure, after this I changed the oil for better quality ones, and the transmission improved, so automatic transmissions are very delicate, good friend, thanks for the interesting information that you bring us in each publication, regards.
