šŸ‰ [MELN] Weekly EXODE Wrap-Up #37

in #hive-102223 ā€¢ 2 years ago

Hello, Pilots!

June Giveaways:

I am going on vacation from June 12 - June 28, which means that šŸ‰ [MELN] Head Scientist @proto26 will write the June 13 (Post #41), June 20 (Post #42), and June 27 (Post #43) šŸ‰ [MELN] Weekly EXODE Wrap-Ups. You will be able to find them on his profile and in the 1up community page. I am going to keep this at the top of the next few posts so that people have fair warning.

šŸ“°News:

Away Teams Challenge Phased Out

exode_gameInspectorMoving.png

The Away Teams Challenge is now transitioning purely towards the Planetary portion of the challenge, which means you can no longer claim an action every day. You can still use your compensation tickets, however that will end soon. I am very excited for the Planetary Challenge!

In-Game Market Improved

exode_market_filters.png

Thanks to a suggestion by @thecbp-hiver, there are two new/fixed options on the market browser. Those being "On Market" and "Not Owned". On Market shows you what cards you have listed for sale, and Not Owned shows cards for sale that you currently do not own.

API Node Issues

As many of you know, there was a number of faulty nodes this past week which caused a transaction backup bug in EXODE. @elindos is in the process of fixing this and will make sure that every transaction goes through.

šŸŽGiveaway:

This week, 3 different people have a chance of winning:

1x LITTLE Buddy

This card is similar to the Friendly Eyes in that it is also autonomous, but different because it is a land vehicle. The other main difference is that the radar is one quality level higher, and it has combat stats. We have yet to see how important a combat stat, and one level of radar will be, so I'll stick with the Friendly Eyes for now.

I'm sure you will do a good job.

You are a very talented writer.

I am most excited about the weather effects. Elindos and the crew are always very keen on details and from what I saw in the UI preview this has very much potential! I expect some hazardous weather effects and perhaps there could be several disciplines in the challenge, like "the player that faced the worst weather for the longest time" ;)

I am not excited for the weather. My planet has weather-related dangers. I'm hoping they pass my colony by!

I hope to see use of installations and prefabs as soon as possible! What good is a Foodie Moodie if it's turned off? I'd much rather rely on one of those for food than going out into the wilds to forage. Plus, I got some interesting cargo during EVAC that I would like to see deployed. Some items you can find in the space station are unlike anything found in the alpha set!

I agree with this 100%. I want to see what I found in my station! Plus I brought a massive cargo ship and that's useless without being able to use the cargo.

Thanks!
@listik303

You're welcome.

I hope to see use of social skills during the planetary challenge, to see how important (and valuable) these stats will be. I think this aspect will cause a major reevaluation of card values across the board.

I agree! Social skills have yet to be seriously important and I bet you're right about the value of those cards changing.

I am so just figuring things out. I didn't have the time to fully explore what could happen in the old challenge, so I never felt like "I wish it did X, too." I didn't fully understand what it could do to have that frame of reference. My hope going forward is that the UI is easier to use, which I am sure it will be. I suspect I will be very pleased with whatever the new challenge brings.

Fair enough. There wasn't much else I wanted added to the Away Teams Challenge, I think it did what it was supposed to do well enough. My favorite part was probably finding out what dangers were on my planet.

Nice recap of the week. The upgrade to the market view was a very nice addition. Though it did cause me to buy another card ...

I am mostly hoping to not get my crew killed in the next phases. I need to do some more investigations but unless our guys can still not die, I would expect to loose the team. So far I have had 1 out of 6 missions NOT result in near death experiences for the crew members.

I am also hoping to learn more of what is needed on my crew to make them function well and survive. Then when we get a chance to sub in a new deck it should result in a crew that can defend itself.

I am also wondering if we will be able to use deployed cargo, as I have a small transport ship that might help with the "travel to investigation spot" part of the sequence, I could fly there instead, and maybe not get killed. So I am looking forward to seeing how much functionality can get implemented.

o/

I don't think they can die still. Weapons aren't even properly implemented, so it wouldn't make sense for them to be able to die. Can't test if everyone's dead!

I am excited to sub in a new deck as well. My mining deck was likely the incorrect choice for this challenge. Oh well.

I'm sure vehicles will be implemented. Exploration is their whole purpose I'm pretty sure, lol.

Thanks for the win! šŸ˜Š !PIZZA

I just realised that all those "BUDDY IN SPACE" phrases remind me of the Fallout series of games. At least the positive vibe it gives out in dire scenarios.
In fallout's case, it was a post nuclear apocalypse and in EXODE, it's pretty much being thrown on to a new planet to start again. Both also documents humanity's attempt to restart a civilization again. šŸ¤”

Back to the question though, I don't expect anything, I prefer to leave it to the established players and devs to to carve out as fun a gaming experience as possible.

Congrats on winning! I like the analogy you made. I've played some Fallout games and used to be quite obsessed with the concept. Now that you mention it, "Your buddy in space" sort of sounds like it could be the slogan of an ad but like in an old 1950s style like the motifs in Fallout. The soundtracks are good, too.

Unique comparison. Had not thought of that before. Only Fallout game I've played is Fallout: Shelter on mobile and I doubt that's similar to the other games, lol.

I am still figuring A LOT out ... but I hope to experiment more and figure out how to play to my crew and passengers' strengths. Including the social skills. I am going to focus on understanding what my strongest cards bring to the table and learning how to leverage their strengths for a better chance of survival. The game already feels so deep so lots for me to learn.

Makes sense. EXODE is probably the most complex game I've been interested in in a while. Let's hope @elindos can keep it simple enough so the learning cliff gets a ladder, lol.

!PIZZA

I am very much looking forward to the time that the colonization loop is integrated into the planetary challenge, and the new technology stuff seems very cool too.

I'm not sure anyone can write that at this moment. Going to have to wait until the challenge comes out before doing that.
