Hello, Pilots!
June Giveaways:
I am going on vacation from June 12 - June 28, which means that š [MELN] Head Scientist @proto26 will write the June 13 (Post #41), June 20 (Post #42), and June 27 (Post #43) š [MELN] Weekly EXODE Wrap-Ups. You will be able to find them on his profile and in the 1up community page. I am going to keep this at the top of the next few posts so that people have fair warning.
š„Community Contest
The š [MELN] Galactic Bioblitz - Contest is up and running on @proto26's blog.
A ton of prizes will be given, including a couple legendary cards, and @elindos is also giving away Alpha Booster Packs!
Right now, winning this contest is the only way to get an Alpha Booster Pack without buying it from the secondary market.
It is open to everyone, all you have to do is draw a Wildlife from your planet using it's attack! There are 3 different categories, each with a different winner and grand prize (although the prizes are secret for now).
š°News:
Black Landing Screen Bug
Some Pilots have been experiencing Planetary Challenge bugs where they are unable to see their planet and instead have a black screen. I have experienced this bug as well, @elindos is on it.
Crew Member Health
All crew will be fully healed before the Planetary Challenge officially starts, so that they can work their jobs at 100%.
Technology Update
I highly recommend you go read the full post, as I cannot cover everything here in a timely manner, but I will cover the things I found most interesting.
Tech Effects
- "In the next update you will see a list of Discoveries to study; studying them will give you new learned technologies.
- Technologies can have global effects on your planet: for instance, effects on travel speed for away teams, number of collected units, research speed...
- We will also reveal new gameplay values, such as your Planet Knowledge, Region Knowledge, ... with game effects on your missions.
- Technologies can unlock new technologies of the next tier
- Technologies can unlock new colony actions; for instance if you research"Collector techniques"* you will unlock separate research fields to unlock training actions for Materials Gatherers, Food Gatherers, Energy Gatherers, Research Gatherers . You read that right, in a real game you can "unlock" new colony actions.
- Technologies can unlock new quests ; studying your ship damage will unlock your Ship Repair Quest*" -@elindos
TECHNOLOGY RARITY
- "When you discover a technology we will roll for common / rare / epic / legendary versions of it.
- feeling unlucky? you can always "retry" and have your team try to deepen a technology you learned, rerolling for superior rarity!
- superior rarity gives superior elements in everything unlocked or added by this tech, and also gives superior chances for "next technologies" accessible from it." - @elindos
TECHNOLOGY SHARING
- "Superior rarity can be SHARED across all your games from same account:
- Once you learn a technology from a game, if you have a superior rarity in another game, you'll always use the best rarity version.
- We would like however players to avoid "exhausting themselves" in too many games, so we'll think about that." @elindos
šGiveaway:
This week, 3 different people have a chance of winning:
I used to think that this card was the worst one out of all the contract cards. However, I think I may have overlooked it's key ability. I would call this card the "FIRETALKER" of the TOM Settler contract. Terrible when un-upgraded, decent when upgraded. At max upgrade, this card provides Habitat for 2 people and Atmospheric Shielding of 10. Now, that's not all that great still, but with the "Space Dropship" keyword that means it can fly back up into orbit at the first sign of danger. I am going to try a strategy where my entire colony is made up of ONLY Smooties, and if we are under attack everyone is going to fly back up into space to avoid the danger. I'll let you know how that goes when I do it, but it sounds like fun. Land, set up automated defenses around a drill or something, then run and hide whenever dangers comes.

My favorite comment last week came from @jdike:
"I am most excited about the weather effects. Elindos and the crew are always very keen on details and from what I saw in the UI preview this has very much potential! I expect some hazardous weather effects and perhaps there could be several disciplines in the challenge, like "the player that faced the worst weather for the longest time" ;)"
