Hello, Pilots!

I'd like to welcome @wolfling7 to EXODE! I hope you have fun with the game.

This week there have been a bunch of miscellaneous bugfixes and balance changes. I will not go over all of them here, but I will share the ones that I think are the most important. The Research phase is a lot more stable now than it was last week. If bugs were preventing you from experiencing it, try it out again today!

Important Bugfixes:

  • Tutorial messages now work correctly.
  • Crew details no longer appear empty sometimes.
  • You can now disband teams that you have created.
  • Teams now properly show what they are working on.
  • You can no longer assign the same character to several teams.
  • Role estimation tool now works correctly.

New Additions:

  • You can now unassign teams from projects. "Removing a team from a project will make you lose "half" of its current completion (but your current completion is at 0 percent, so you are safe!)."
  • "Added Citizen count to topbar."
  • "Added a feature to Test member roles in several support roles."

I really like what I see. The UI needs some refinement, which is being worked on with a good response time to bugs reported. The fact that one person is producing the code for this is impressive. I feel that once the initial UI issues are resolved and the clock begins to tick, we are going to have some fun.

I looked over my the crew I have and always thought I had no weapons. It turns out that in my ships locker there are 3 full sets of armor and 3 weapons. I chose to check my ship out for current status as my project. As I thought I would do something that my crew would live through, cause I had no weapons. Now I might have chose different.

Being in the software development line of work myself, we got exactly what I expected in this release. Not perfect but good enough to get some players onboard to kick it around. There is nothing like having actual users in testing, as they do things that Dev and Dev testing might not think of or have access to. ie. 100 different screen resolutions and 5 different browsers ..

Hey guys, my friend sckoarn invited me to try this game and im liking it sofar. Ive run through the evacuate a bunch of times, trying each origin.
With the latest update im starting to see how the game can have many faucets. My 1st completed evac was military, since the hardest part was killing people and not dying while u packed up to launch. But now i wish i had my science setup to better deal with things on the planet. Ive put together a group and started the research on fixing the ship, will see how that goes.

You have both been sent a Rekatron EXPLANATOR (shotgun that can be equipped to a character).

These two comments do a good job of showing the issues that the Alpha Starters have with the current state of Evacuation. You don't have useable weapons in 2/3 of the starters, and in the Military starter their weapons take up a ship equipment slot rather than being directly equipped on a character, meaning you have to spend valuable time grabbing the weapons in order to fight back against the enemies in the station. I think a good solution for Beta Starters would be to give them a few weapons that can be equipped to characters, or make the ship equipment slot weapons/armors take far less time to be picked up and much stronger. There could also be some other buff added to all weapons/armors if you equip one to your ship. Maybe if you have weapons equipped you get more ammunition for all of them, or if you have armors equipped you get access to a repair station where you can fix them when/if they become damaged. I believe this will be less of an issue later on when the game is fully released, but right now I bet most players who are only "on the fence" about EXODE quit here after having their characters killed repeatedly with no way to fight back.

Having fled the starbase with only starter cards and claiming my planet, I plan to work hard to survive as long as possible in the Alpha/Beta timeframe before taking advantage of the generousosity of @proto26 and @birdbeaksd giveaway cards when I relaunch.

So for now I must focus on survival, I assume this means an early focus on shelter and food. My first team with my strongest engineers will first focus on makeshift shelter, and a team with the best remaining doctors will focus on colony, a third team will try to explore the planet hopefully finding food and resources close to home. I still have work to do but am excited to see the colinization loop turned on in slow mode to fail fast with minimal consequences and adjust. I am focused on enjoying and playing this !gif space game as best I can on a budget.

Between discord and these posts the community seems to be a lot of #FUN and very supportive. The development "team" @elindos is interactive, informative and seems to listen to the user community for ideas and comments! I am looking forward to a long journey in this creation!

So ive built four teams out of my ten characters, 3 teams of 3. The leftover is my welfare officer who makes a team by herself to resesrch ship quarters.
My other 3 teams are engineering for ship analysis, construction to build habitats and a group to send out to explore for energy and food.
Nothing is actually running yet so not sure which is best. I figure dealing with the basics of survival is a good bet. So im focused on stuff to bring in food or work on shelter.
My stats for my characters aren't that great, so doing the best i can with what i got.
Also found that after creating new teams i needed to refresh for the info to be updated. After refresh characters showed proper labeling to current teams and the indicator that showed they were in a team properly dissappeared.

So far, I have been creating and deleting teams while I am still finding bugs. So, I still haven't really decided exactly where I want to focus to start. When it seems the all the team creation and assignment UI is working, I will focus more on which of my people are best and what and set about creating the teams to actually get going.

I managed to land with 13 people on board, so I should be able to put together 5 teams and start work in nearly all of the top level research topics, which I am very much looking forward to.

My main research project is analyzing the planet. My best researchers are on the job and I plan to unlock at least 2 more slots for the Casrarene Science team as soon as possible as it levels up. Some teams I left with a free space to have more, smaller teams working. Many people are still idle though. Maybe I'm anticipating more actions (like not just researching construction but actual construction) or more research roles being added. I don't want to have to disband many, if any, teams. Am I thinking too hard about or too far into the future about this? Or is the best strategy right now to go all out and have the entire colony researching?
I've discovered that Eliza makes a great leader for almost any research team.

I would be interested to hear your answer to your #3!

Weapons in Starters
Weapons are indeed a luxury but not necessarily required to preload before EVAC in my opinion.
Maybe I'm being harsh but doesn't putting weapon/s in starters make them too accessible? Either that or make it super weak like a "practice" weapon having rubber bullets or something. But I think perhaps having maybe one (or several?) rare/higher rarity individual weapons in boosters makes more sense. I imagine this hypothetical weapon being mediocre or... unbecoming? You know, without the flashiness of REKATRON. Haha

Hearing your setup makes me wish I brought a ship with a larger crew! Cargo ship seems like it was not the right choice for this challenge, lol. I have my entire crew Researching.

As for what I'm doing, it's pretty simple. I have two teams of 3 (since the Cargo ship only has 6 crew). One team is researching the planet and the other team is researching the ship damage. None of my crew are particularly good at doing this, except for my Elite Syndicate Hacker who is good at everything.

I think that there should still be some sort of weapon(s) included in starters, even if they are weak. Everything is variable though and would take balancing probably. It sucks to get crew randomly generated in a hostile zone and you are unable to rescue them because a single enemy spawned early.
