Travel with LightCaptured, Corvin Castle in 32 photos, Romania

in #hive-1041012 years ago

Beautiful Transylvania, at the Southwestern part of Romania, holds one true European treasure.

That is Corvin Castle, in English, or "Castelul Corvinilor", in Romanian.

Let me warn you first, that if you find yourself near it and decide to pay a visit, an hour will not be enough. That fortress is indeed huge and hides a lot of stunning corners and details. Yes, it felt like fortress to me and I am not sure which word is better here, castle or fortress.

From historical perspective, this castle and the whole region as well, have a lot to tell. If you are interested to find out facts and info about its rich legacy, scroll down to the bottom of this article where I provided a few links to enrich and enlighten ourselves.

Through my eyes, I could tell this marvel had not been built in an year. Probably it took centuries, as while I was walking inside and exploring its beauties, I could tell I am seeing details from different architectural styles and most certainly, eras...

Wide and tall stone walls.

The castle is established on isle in a river and with its stone wall, tall tens of meters, it is obvious it had absolute immunity against attacks.

As you could see by my photos, I visited the castle around noon. True, not the best time to take scenery photos, not at all but as I was visiting the place with a large group of other travelers, I had no choice. The positive side, though, you'll see plenty of sun, sunlight and sun rays in my photos! :)

At noon the place was overcrowded.

So we've spent a lot of time waiting on a queue to buy tickets.

Waiting on top of that stone bridge was spectacular, despite being forced to stand there for a long time.

I doubt there had been military forces keen to climb those solid huge walls under the risk of being showered by arrows and burning oil, right?

Impressive towers and observation decks.

Finally the wait is over and I am stepping inside the castle yard.

Only a few steps ahead I pass by the castle dungeon. What a great way to impress any uninvited guests, right?

I couldn't count properly the stories, to be honest. Five, six, maybe more, including the basement floors?

Everywhere I discovered lovely decorations.

Doors, windows, floor mosaics with coats of arms.

Places to sit and have a chat by the colorfully glass painted windows.

Coat of arms even on the ceiling!

Here is how the light plays with the sight when I sit by the window.

I've been wondering, how many faiths had been decided here?

Messages encoded in the iron cast door decoration, that's for sure!

Magically looking staircases.

With beautiful reflections of the castle towers over the rhomb pieces of glass of the windows.

Plenty of people everywhere and that's great cause you see the scale of it all.

The throne and the council chamber is something... one of a kind, don't you think?

Sitting on these chairs had been a huge responsibility, it had not been easy to take important decisions.

The sun shines upon the castle yard.

Perhaps I have forgot to mention that the castle is a museum, but by now, I guess, you have figured that out.

High-angle Zen. A moment to relax.

That's simply a picture. More like a painting, I'd say.

The wooden construction holding the roof was just breathtaking. I felt shivers on my back while being under it and looking up.

And here, I am sharing one truly magical moment with you, that I managed to capture with my camera. That divine light falling upon me and penetrating my eyes...

Corridors, tunnels, entrances, it felt like a fairy-tale maze.

On my way out I was given a present. Across the castle bridge there was a small square with musicians rehearsing for a performance that was planned for the same evening. Surprisingly, it has beautiful acoustics, despite the open space and the myriad of people around.

A musical gift. I loved that too!

A castle! So glad someone posted a castle post here - my favorite travel spots. Sites steeped in so much (burdening) time, so much history... You yourself write "how many faiths had been decided here".
Castles are at the same time extremely negative places, imbued with pain and sorrow, on the other hand - there was no other such wonderful and majestic architecture at that time.
Corvin Castle is a fairy place. Seems pretty atypical to me. At least because Romania borders Bulgaria, and we don't have such castles here. 😄 Ha ha, it goes without saying that such conclusions cannot be made. But I really regret that there are no such buildings in Bulgaria. Anyway, it looks like a very beautiful and spectacular place, with a very special atmosphere. And you pictures are amazing (not wanting to flatter you) 😊📷🏰
Thank you for this wonderful contribution!

I didn't know that, and it's interesting :) I'll try to remember it :)
What you say is true. A fascinating fact is how only a couple of hundreds of kilometers make such a huge difference. In culture, architecture, traditions, etc...

Well written but most prominently, were the sun stars! It looks so epic and the shape is so aesthetic! What aperture was this shot at and with which lens?

Thank you, one of my favorite light effect.
