The past days I visited my hometown to spend Christmas with my family. I am from Ioannina, a northwest city of Greece. The house that I grew up is facing an impressive old abandoned building, the old university of Ioannina. I remember when we were kids and playing at our neighborhood we were always curious about that building, wanted to explore what was inside but we were forbidden to approach. As you imagine an exploration of an abandoned building like this for kids is a whole scenario on their minds so we had done a lot of attempts to get in but every time we were getting caught by our parents. As I was getting older that desire of exploration had left my mind and actually never took the chance to do it...until yesterday!
So I woke up in the morning called my boyfriend @knowhow92 and persuaded him to follow me on the exploration.
From stories that I have heard for my grandma who lives for over 60 years at the neighborhood, the university built at 1964.
It was actually the fourth university that built in Greece.
Back then there were only 3 or 4 different departments at the building.
In 1994 the university moved to another place of the city cause there was not enough space for all the new departments that had opened. Since then the building was abandoned like this until today.
Let's start the tour floor to floor.
Ground Floor
First Floor
Second Floor
Third Floor
Garret Floor
The tour at the old university of Ioannina ends here. I don't have many informations or any kind of urban myth to share with you about it but mostly a ton of images through my eyes. Exploring and photograph an abandonded building like this was something I really enjoyed doing. It also inspired me for some photoshootings that I have on my mind for a long time so I might come back again for another project. Exploring the building had no risk at all, it is actually a free space with no prohibitions so I had plenty of time to walk around and take some clicks. I can say for sure that it was an awesome experience and inspired me to try exploring new abandoned buildings in the future, maybe prohibited ones for some more suspense hehe.
Thank you all for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed my post guys.
Have a good day and some better exporations stories!
