Often, people find themselves struggling to make decisions. I once read an article mentioning that people spend around 2 years and 9 months of their lives tangled up in indecision and choice difficulties. It's a pretty common situation, and there are several reasons behind choice paralysis. Some people are too focused on perfection, worrying they might miss out on a better option, which makes it hard for them to decide. Others fear taking responsibility. Some children grow up overly dependent due to indulgent parenting styles, while others develop an avoidance mindset from strict upbringing, making it difficult for them to make decisions.
I also often find myself stuck in a lunchtime decision dilemma. My general rule is to avoid eateries with long queues or those too far away. Of course, there are exceptions. If I feel like taking a stroll or exploring somewhere new, I'm up for it. Last year, with the wave of closures in the food industry, from century-old shops to large chain restaurants, many familiar eateries disappeared. The surviving ones have hiked up their prices, so now everything seems to be pricier. Hence, I need to explore some new affordable yet delicious options.
Huang Mama's Rice Noodle Soup is a well-known local eatery nearby. Every time I go there during lunch hours, I have to wait in a long line for a table. It's a three-generation heritage shop, serving aromatic rice noodle soup cooked with pork bones for over forty years. I've tried it, but the taste didn't particularly impress me. I've also tried the Rice Noodle Soup at the adjacent Mrs. Luo's shop, and apparently, the difference lies in the broth—one light, the other heavy. I found both to be just okay in terms of taste, and while the prices are reasonable, the long queue puts me off.
So my friend and I opted for a traditional noodle stall with air conditioning, even though it was a bit stuffy inside the market. While the prices were friendly, the environment wasn't as welcoming. I hadn't tried this shop before, but it looked clean, and I assumed it should be comfortable enough. We ordered wonton noodles and sesame sauce noodles to fill our stomachs. They used regular noodles topped with bean sprouts, chives, and shiny minced meat, without much soy sauce paste, making it light and refreshing. After finishing our meal, we still had room for some drinks nearby to cool off. These kinds of small noodle stalls are my friend's favorite, as they offer a simple and satisfying meal on weekdays.
