For a convenient Naija, WE MOVE: A poetry

I sat on my porch on a brilliantly bright cool day, my phone in my hand, swiping up the compound of my social handle and scrolling back down when I miss anything.

On facebook, I stumbled on a recent incident of a pastor caught with drugs. And then, I began to reason deeply a whole lot of maybes.

Maybe if he had sincerely accepted his calling to serve in the vineyard of the Lord wholeheartedly, it would have taken a better turn in his life

Maybe if he wasn't so desperate to have wealth under the disguise of priesthood, he wouldn't have attempted such despicable thought

Maybe if he had morals and had kept to them; if he had stood his ground despite pressure, he wouldn't have been caught red-handed in such act

Maybe if he had had a second thought about the consequences of his actions, he would have long dismissed the idea of been involved with illicit drugs

Maybe if our places of worship hadn't been such a charade and a "legal avenue" of money extortation, we would have a better place to inhabit

Maybe if we had a well enabling environ, full of good/quality job opportunities, our heads would have been too occupied to entertain lingering thoughts of illegality

Maybe if our government had stopped disappointing us and at least made provisions of needed amenities readily, we would create our own jobs and maintain our moral standards

Maybe if we hadn't been so pushed to the wall by oppression hitting from all corners by the so-called "elites"

Maybe if our means of livelihood hadn't been forcefully snatched from us, we wouldn't become so desperate to live the good life even if it meant selling our souls

Maybe if we began showing our hurt and disappointment towards our "ogas at the top" officials and their familiar sugarcoated words, we could end up having good standards of living and a better economy to contend with---when necessary, if necessary

It's high time we realized that things have moved backwards for too long. We are far behind and to keep up, we need to start pushing for forwardness.

We need to start setting all priorities right, all mental consciousness at alert, our deepest conscience at the "humane" level.

It can only begin with YOU

Let's know when to press forward, when to take a break to listen to reason.
Positivity can be achieved, if only strived for with every bit of conscious intentions.

LET'S BATTLE STRATEGICALLY

Things can still be pivoted the way we DREAM IT but we have to ACT FAST.

LET'S WIN UNDEFEATEDLY

The generations to come will need a place to call HOME so let's be that "coconut head generation" for their sake. Let's help secure their birthright as we strive to retain ours as well.

For a convenient Nigeria, WE MOVE!!!

Sort:

There are a lot of maybes here but this, "It can only begin with YOU" supersedes every maybe. The awful situation of the economy is no reason to be a terrible person.

This was an interesting read. Thanks for sharing!

Exactly. One doesn't have to be terrible because of a bad economic situation but we can't stop at just giving lip services to the issue. Our goal (we the moral ones) is to sensitize every mind so as to lead a better country. Make we for fit recognize the "King Solomon" wey Baba God go bless us with, u gerrit? 😂

Thanks for stopping by ❤
