I have tried to avoid political talk so far because I know my heart and mind would not take it if I truly understand the gravity of what is happening especially with the primaries election to appoint the presidential candidates.
On my timeline, everywhere, everyone is admonishing each other to get a PVC (permanent voting card) but do you think our vote alone would count?
First, I truly want to understand how these candidates are selected for primaries election because what I have been seeing so far is the various parties forcing their choice on us to choose from.
Then Who are these delegates that get to choose who becomes our presidential candidate? Because I do not see any of the people’s choice winning or even getting selected to represent the major parties.
My heart is heavy as I watch APC presidential convention, the declared winner couldn’t even walk on his own without aid, he is looking way older than our present president and he is supposed to someday lead us if he wins?
My friend said physical fitness should be part of the criteria for the presidency since we lost a president on the seat before and I agree.
Right now the choice before we are the candidates of APC, PDP, and labor party, I truly want to have hope and say that Labour Party would Win for the first time seeing the amount of support Peter obi is getting from the youth and online space, he is even the major reason lots of people are getting their PVC, so to be optimistic I have to be hopeful.
BUT...
Do we think our hopes and our PVCs would be enough?
If our votes truly count why not adopt the electronic way of voting, Where we use our thumbs print or all we have to do is click a button online to vote and immediately the result is collates and that means it cannot be rigged or hacked and results are shown instantly
Because there is no guarantee that it would be free and fair, using ballot boxes and paper, in this tech age with all our brothers and sisters in tech!!! We cannot use the same voting system and expect a better result nawwwww...
My heart aches for my country!!!
I am truly worried about what Nigeria will become in the next 4 years or even 8 years because it would take some kind of obstacle or circumstances for a president to rule for just one tenure and drop it.
The next election would 2031, which is a long time, the decision for better governance for our children’s future and our future is now and it seems like there is not much choice for us right now.
I do not even want to think about all that has happened these past weeks, and the reaction we got from The supposed presidential Candidates and even the people in power, the news outlet, and the media... seems it’s Every man for himself now in this country...
2023 is almost here and all I can do is VOTE, HOPE, and PRAY. Fingers crossed 🤞 the next 4-8 years will be our best years yet in this country 🥺.
