It's another beautiful week of the Hive Open Mic. It is week 250, and I so excited to be a part of this Open Mic once again to share music with tons of music lovers around the globe.
The theme chosen for this week's entries is Long Night.
When I first saw the theme, no song immediately came to mind, so I took to Google to search for songs related to Long Night, but I still didn't find any song I knew or would've loved to do. So, I just let it go and told myself I'd decide later.
A couple of days later, I'm busy learning song lyrics on the guitar in my room from a very wonderful app called Guitar Songs which is available on Android Playstore, which has a wide catalogue of songs, their lyrics and chords.
Anyways, so I'm learning songs and for the first time ever I actually saw the lyrics of the song Ghost by Justin Bieber. I had heard the song multiple songs in the past and my impression of it from the chorus was that the song was a love song to an ex-lover, because I had never really searched out the lyrics of the song before.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
Anyways, for those who like me, knew the song, but had never searched for the lyrics or what it means, let me be your concierge to new knowledge. The song is essentially talking about the grief of losing a love one to death. Apparently, he wrote it post-pandemic as some kind of tribute to those who died during the pandemic and those who will be missing them.
When I came to a better understanding of what the song meant, it just clicked for me. What better encapsulates the theme of a Long Night better than death.
So I decided I was going to perform this beautiful song. Shortly into my practice however, I realized that the vocals were a real challenge for me. Really makes you have new levels of appreciation for the skills that some of these stars possess and the amount of commitment and dedication required to keep it.
Anyways, I'm here embarrassing myself without shame with my struggling vocals on this song😂. But here it is, and I hope you try enjoy it nonetheless.
