Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

Welcome to Week 203 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for this week is “Memories”!

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve decided to alter my Three Tune Tuesday posts to be based around the Hive Open Mic theme of the week, and how I would go about tackling it. If you are wanting to take part this week, but need some help interpreting what kind of songs would suit the theme, please go check out my post here:

https://ecency.com/hive-193816/@jasperdick/music-three-tune-tuesday-144

I recommended:

• “Memories” by Maroon 5
• “Memory” by Andrew Lloyd Webber from the “Cats” musical
• “Memories” by Andre de Villiers

You’re probably familiar with the first two songs there? In fact I did a cover of the Maroon 5 “Memories” on a vahila once – that’s a bamboo zither instrument from the islands off East Africa like Madagascar! You can see that here if you’re interested:

But what about “Memories” by Andre de Villiers? Who is that? Well, Andre de Villiers is a wonderful South African songwriter, and many South Africans my age or older will be familiar with the song because it was used in a classic (and emotionally poignant) South African car advert for Volkwagen that you can see here.

Well, that’s the version I’m familiar with, so let me tackle a cover of that! But apparently the song in its entirety did have a bridge section and a second verse. Here is Andre de Villiers singing it in concert at the Baxter theatre here in Cape Town:

I hope you love this beautiful song!

Lyrics for “Memories” by Andre de Villiers

I remember days of my life
I recall the faces, mostly yours
magic moment, life was a mystery
there's no place on earth that we'd rather be
moving up, going through some changes
storing up the memories
can you give me the light of my life
I always gave the best I could give
sometimes it never seems like enough
though we never quit when the going got tough
do you remember the way it used to be
never counting cost was a matter of trust
covenant cut were lovers for life
I still bear the scar you used to carry the knife
I remember days of my life
I recall the faces, mostly yours
magic moments, life's still a mystery
there's no place on earth that we'd rather be
this is my life, and I'm passing on the memories

https://ecency.com/hive-193816/@jasperdick/music-tres-tune-tuesday-144

a veces nunca parece suficiente

This is my first time come across your post.
I love the way you play the guitar

Thank you so much! I appreciate it! Hope you come across my posts again soon!

You are welcome, I will be looking forward to more of your post

Hello Jasper, I love this
The chords gave great melody to the beautiful voice with which you sang
You are always amazing man
Bravo

Thank you so much man! I hope you liked the advert version - why don't they make adverts that sweet and emotional anymore?

Hehe, that's the changes we have in the world, perhaps, people now have a finality beyond making an advert emotional, hehe

I love the way you play the guitar and also sing well at the same time, it's not an easy task doing both at a time.
Good job man.

Thank you so much - yes, I think the secret is unconscious foot tapping, which makes the guitar playing more subconscious... so you can focus on your singing. It comes with enough practice - you just have to get to the point where the practice is fun!

Wow.
Sir, singing and playing so cool is the reason why I love coming to your post. Thanks for the beautiful entry

Ah man, thank you - this means a lot to me! I hope I continue to entertain you!

!LUV

Thanks man! Hope you are surviving the docks work!

Yeah, surviving. It is an incredible amount of work that needs to be done as usual. Project scope is arching far over a bar.

Wow
You've got a wonderful song here mister. A great voice and a soothing accompaniment.
Nice entry
Well done sir🥰

Thank you so much! I think there are several South African artists that are world-class! This guy definitely wrote a few beautiful pieces.
