Hello everyone, I hope you are all having fun with this weeks theme of Memories.
Memories play such an important part in our lives. Not only because we need to remember essential day to day tasks but also because we look back on things we have done and people we have known. I always think that this is in order to confirm our place in this world and also because we love to remember good things. There must be many songs written about such a topic and I know quite a few or them, but I chose 'The Way We Were'.
It is a song from 1973, by my namesake, Barbara Striesand. It is hard to believe I was only 6 when this song was released. Now fifty years later, here I am doing my own recording of it. Where on Earth did all that time go? I can remember it being on the radio when I was a child. My Dad always had music on whilst he was working or driving somewhere and I have fond recollections of being in Dads car going on holiday to the seaside, listening to music by Barbara Striesand, Elton John and The New Seekers to name but a few.
'The Way We Were' was actually a film about two lovers set in the 1940s, which starred Barbara Striesand and Robert Redford. The song was on an album that accompanied the film and it was named the number 1 pop single of 1974 by Billboard. It was also inducted in to the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1998.
