Greetings, dear Open Mic family! I’m very happy to be able to participate in this musical event week after week in the company of many talented musicians. The theme for this addition is Long Night, a topic that I found very interesting and with a bit of a dark connotation.
As soon as I heard about this theme, the story of the series Game of Thrones about the long night came to my mind, for those of us who are fans of this series will know what this prophecy refers to. The truth is that I already presented the cover of the iconic opening of this series here so I better think of another song.
Today I present an acoustic cover of the song Taking Over Me, by the American alternative metal band Evanescence, from the album Fallen, released in 2003. The first album of this band has many songs with a dark and deep theme, and this song is no exception, that's why I thought it was ideal to present it this week. In its lyrics it tells us about a person that no matter how hard she tries she can't get her old love out of her mind, while her ex-partner seems to have been able to overcome everything, that's why the protagonist feels prey of her memories and feelings, in a dark circle without end, simile of a long night that she wishes it could end in order to relieve her pain. ¡Saludos, querida familia de Open Mic! Me contenta sobremanera poder participar en este evento musical semana a semana en compañía de muchos músicos talentosos. La temática en esta adición es Larga Noche, un tópico que me pareció muy interesante y con una connotación un poco oscura.
Apenas supe de esta temática se me vino a la mente la historia de la serie Juego de Tronos sobre la larga noche, para quienes somos fanáticos de esta serie sabrán a qué se refiere dicha profecía. Lo cierto es que ya presenté el cover del icónico opening de esta serie por aquí así que mejor pensaba en otra canción.
Hoy les presento un cover acústico de la canción Taking Over Me, de la banda de metal alternativo estadounidense Evanescence, perteneciente al álbum Fallen, publicado en el año 2003. El primer álbum de esta banda tiene muchas canciones con una temática oscura y profunda, y esta canción no es la excepción, por eso me pareció idónea para presentarla esta semana. En su letra nos habla de una persona que por más que lo intente no puede sacar de su mente a su antiguo amor, mientras que su ex pareja sí parece hacer podido superar todo, es por eso que la protagonista se siente presa de sus remembranzas y sentimientos, en un oscuro círculo sin fin, símil de una larga noche que desearía pudiera acabar para así aliviar su dolor.
