Hi, dear friends and family at Hive Open Mic Community. Introducing we self, my name is Samuel Stifen a guitarist, and my friend Frans as a vocalist. We are both an acoustic pop band called The People People. Needless to say, the weekly #openmic event has entered number 135. Every day we see great talented musicians here. This proves that the weekly Hive Open Mic is getting ahead.
So, this week's theme is “Fighting Oppression”. This theme was chosen by @indonesiabersatu, A rock band in the Hive community and also, they are from the same country as us. To me, their band is really cool and has a unique vibe to listen to. From this week's theme, the two of us performed a cover song entitled “Kami Belum Tentu” from Feast. The song was written by Baskara Putra, who was originally a vocalist for the band Feast.
This song refers to people's perception that young people tend to be apathetic and silent when riots or political turmoil occur in this country. .Feast tries to twist this assumption and prove that the generalization doesn't apply to them. In the song “Kami Belum Tentu”, the band brings back the scents of grassroots resistance which is packaged in a more simple and reasonable way. Concerns about the culture of the Indonesian people who believe in fake news and young people who feel it is useless to protest or fight are shown through the choice of straightforward lyrics.
This song gives a message about the anger felt by the community in responding to the circulating national issues. in the lyrics of this song, the songwriter also reveals that nowadays young people are too apathetic in responding to current social issues. Sometimes young people are often thought to be blind about national issues. If many are apathetic, there must be a reason. In fact, many people know and follow the development of major cases such as human rights violations or political scandals, but they never end. It's only natural that over time children our age are getting numb to the situation.
