Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for saturday, the 4th day of March, 2024. Happy new week everyone. All hail the 5 star Arsenal!!! Sheffield United is currently hosting Arsenal in a crucial game at both ends of the table. Sheffield remain at the bottom of the table while 3rd placed Arsenal will be two points behind leaders, Liverpool with a win tonight. And they are currently doing that with an emphatic (0-5) win over Sheffield at halftime. It could be more people.
Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1933, in the midst of the Great Depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt was inaugurated as the 32nd President of the United States, and he later led the country out of the Depression and to World War II victory.
From the USA, Larry goes to Canada. He finds out that on this day in 1982, Bertha Wilson, a Canadian judge, became the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada.
From Canada, Larry goes to back to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1982, Landon Donovan, an American professional football (soccer) player, largely recognised as the greatest American male player in the sport's history was born in Ontario, California, U.S.A.
From the USA, Larry goes to South Africa. He finds out that on this day in 1932, Miriam Makeba, a South African-born singer known as Mama Afrika, was one of the world's most prominent Black African musicians of the twentieth century was born in Prospect Township, near Johannesburg, South Africa.
From South Africa, Larry goes to Peru. He finds out that on this day in 2020, Peruvian diplomat Javier Pérez de Cuéllar who served as the United Nations' fifth Secretary-General (1982-91) and Peru's Prime Minister (2000-01) died in Lima, Peru.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from the Netherlands. He finds out that on this day in 2011, Simon van der Meer, a Dutch physical engineer who, along with Carlo Rubbia, received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1984 for his contribution to the discovery of the massive, short-lived subatomic particles known as W and Z, which were critical to Steven Weinberg, Abdus Salam, and Sheldon Glashow's unified electroweak theory posited in 1970s, died in Geneva, Switzerland.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
