Split - HiveFest - Boat Trip ~~~ Rhapsody In Blue

This is crazy. Yesterday, I returned home to Kyiv. And today, my work week has already begun. I was gone for only 15 days (a whole 2 weeks!!!), and I feel like I've come back from Mars...

I downloaded more than 1300 pictures from my camera's memory card, and now I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. According to some sorting, the first photos are from our boat trip on Sunday, September 15, 2024. So let it be.

We were really looking forward to this trip, but no one has the power to change the weather or summon a storm, not even @Lordbutterfly. My daughter was very upset when we found out that the trip was rescheduled to Sunday, as we were supposed to fly to Warsaw that evening. But it turned out that the trip would finish a bit earlier than planned, and we would make it to the flight. So instead of one day, I got two truly enchanting days filled with picturesque clouds and waves in all shades of blue.

Enjoy!

The day was cool and very windy, and it even looked like it might rain in the morning. We arrived at the meeting point by taxi with our luggage so that we could head straight to the airport after returning.

At the scheduled time, we boarded the boat, which had all the hallmarks of a pirate schooner — cannons, barrels of gunpowder wine, ghosts in the hold, and pirates actually.

At first, everyone sat on the lower deck, but eventually we adapted to the wind and moved up to the upper deck, where some passengers were desperately trying to hold onto the sun loungers with their weight to keep them from being blown into the sea.

Wherever I was, I couldn't take my eyes off the sky. The clouds that day were simply incredible (have I mentioned this already?).

We sailed past small islands with olive groves, tiny bays and a single house, while some of the islands were completely uninhabited.

Finally, our boat docked at the island and we went ashore while the crew prepared dinner.

Nearby was a cozy beach, and the water was warmer than the air temperature!

A few daredevils decided that the weather would not prevent them from swimming, and very soon others began to follow their example.

DSC00090.jpg

DSC00092.jpg

Fortunately or unfortunately, I didn't have to decide whether to swim or not, because I can't swim. So all that was left for me was to enjoy the view, walk around, and take pictures.

It seemed that no matter how hard I tried, no photo could capture the shades of the water and the incredible clarity of the Adriatic Sea.

Lunch is ready! While we eat, the boat sets on its return course. Somewhere below us, the underwater museum passes by, but I didn’t see it...

DSC00124.jpg

However, my husband has a talent for noticing what I don’t. Thanks to him, I saw a dolphin!

DSC00128.jpg

The boat sailed close to the rocky shore, and you could see the black trunks of trees destroyed by a recent fire. I even spotted a micro-beach.

Meanwhile, the large group had split into smaller ones. Some were learning how to steer the helm, some were compensating for the cold weather with warm conversation, others were preparing to become pirates by climbing the yardarm. The rest were just watching.

I was sitting directly beneath them, so I hoped the two brave ones wouldn’t fall on my head. Luckily, everything ended well. Neither the pirates nor the schooner were harmed.

That's it.

After returning to the port, we headed straight to the nearest restaurant to eat before our flight. Yes, someone in our family is always hungry (hint: it’s the one who weighs the least, LOL). I regret not being able to say goodbye to everyone in person. Looking forward to making up for it next time!

See you,
@zirochka

P. S. I hope my photo journey didn’t give you a bout of seasickness.

P. P. S. Rumor has it that this was the best HiveFest of all time. I'm not an expert as I’ve only been to two, but I completely agree.

Sort:

How come there's no one on the beach? Did you go back again after lunch? It looks so peaceful and tranquil without anyone

I'm gutted I missed the dolphin 😔

Yes, Nat and I returned there after lunch. The captain and Lordbutterfly were relaxing there too.

Wow, with dolphins and all! Lovely photos, I was sorry to miss all the fun but hope to compensate on a future hivefest! !BEER

Oh yes, we missed you on the boat! And I didn't say good bye to you so we must make it up next time 😉

Very cool all the pictures on your blog. It looks like a real pirate adventure, but modern! Haha, glad everything went well and you were able to enjoy the day.

Thanks for sharing.

and I feel like I've come back from Mars...

i mentioned it in my post, this was playing in my head as i was stopping in front of my gate returning home

you managed to catch the dolphin. i saw it quite close to the boat and took my camera out, but it was gone.

I remember your post 😊 I don't know how it works but I always starting to miss my home before return.

It is strange that the weather is warmer in Ky8v than by the sea in Split. Although a few days ago, the air condition in Kyiv was the worst in the world due to fires, and the smell of smoke can still be felt.

I am glad you spotted the dolphin too! 😍

i came back to a pretty nice weather too :)

I was like people a dolphin a dolphin, took the bag got my camera out and he was gone :)

🤷‍♀️
Next time you won't miss it ;)

Everyone smiling pretending not to be cold LOL

A smile warms 😀😀

that's cute x

Must have been an amazing boat trip, even with the cloudy skies. Most of my Croatian holidays took place in July and August when the weather is always sunny and super hot over there but I think I would love this kind of autumnal boat trip as well :) So happy for all of you guys who made it to the Fest. You know how much I wish I could go too but eventually, it turned out that I wouldn´t be able to enjoy the event that much as during that time, my hometown here in Czechia got flooded. Literally 1/3 of the city was under water, including some of my family and many friends :( So at least I was here and could help them, even tough it will probably take years for our region to recover from the disaster. I know there were floods in several other countries too (Austria, Poland, Romania) so hopefully, Ukraine was spared this time.

@tipu curate 7

I was thinking of you when I watched the flood in the media. I see that my fears were justified (((( Considering this, I agree that you couldn't fully enjoy the event. I am so sorry and I wish I could help somehow... I know this awful feeling as my mom's house was flooded twice in my memory, and what you see when the water is gone is devastating. We were never able to fix the consequences, and my mother sold the house last year.
Hold on there, guys.

!HUG

You are right, many of the houses that got flooded cannot be fixed, they will have to be demolished and built again, probably at some other, safer places. There were devastating floods in 1997 in the same very region so just like your mom, many people here got flooded again, even though they shouldn´t as various anti-flood measures have been taken since then. But like always, Mother Nature had the upper hand again, sending an extremely massive flood wave that exceeded even the most pessimist scenarios and calculations. That´s why the consequences are so tragic. I´m sorry that your family has experience with this kind of disasters as well :(

It was a lovely day out. The water was really nice for swimming and I saw lots of fish. I did miss the dolphin though.

It was a good event overall. I hope we can get back to the numbers we had at some of the early ones when we had about 300 people. It helps if the price goes up, but then we need to work on that.

I hope you enjoyed all your travels and that things are okay at home. I shall see you at the next one.

!PIZZA

I enjoyed out talks, and it was a great firewall surprise to meet you and the other guy (can't remember his name, think I'm getting old) at the airport to say goodbye in person. As you said, hope to meet you again "somewhere in the world" 😊😉

!BEER

That was @basilmarples. We were on the same flight home.

Thanks!

yes it was lovely to meet you right at the end!

I hope it was not the last time! 😊

one day perhaps we will be neighbours on Hive Island!

I was expecting you guys to have games or team building thing on the island haha.. it was rather a pure relaxation, wandering, and picture taking. hehe.. still worth it..
