When I saw the "Silver Prompts" referring to "Retirement" and what I believed it to be?, quite a few thoughts went through my head....well! quite a lot actually...some nice thoughts and some really shitty ones too.
My perspective of Retirement back in the day, was totally different to what I'm experiencing now.
I worked in the corporate world for seventeen years after losing our Picture Framing business 25 years ago, due to a thieving staff member...that is another story...OK, we wont go there just yet, we'll leave that one for another post.
As I was saying...after working for a Bank as an admin clerk and receptionist in the Corporate world, I often dreamed of the day when I would retire, and how wonderful it was going to be having freedom to do what ever I wished, without having to answer to any "Hierarchy" in the establishment.
Oh boy!...how naïve was I then.
What a blast it was going to be Lol!
The first two years were awesome, I was very busy helping Silver Mamma Chef in her kitchen, cooking for The Crew before they took off on the road to Cape Town, leaving Silver Mamma Chef's Kitchen from a "Hustle and Bustle" to absolute dead quietness, and her heart broken.
I miss "Silver Mamma Chef's Kitchen" she had so much going on there, cooking and baking, always thinking up new recipes and preparing menus for the boys.
Oh well!...life goes on...awhile has past since, and I'm still trying to find my way through this life's journey called retirement.
I thought I'd always have my children around me forever...it didn't work out that way unfortunately, they grew up and flew out of the nest looking for greener pastures...I mean, I'm happy for them...if only they could've stayed little, just for a tad bit longer.
Candice went to Australia, Angela to Cape Town, there's still my eldest daughter Celeste who lives on the other side of the City up the North Coast of Durban, which is about a 45 minute drive from me, being a career woman, she's always jetting around the country, so we don't often see each other.
So!... that leaves Me and the old man.
I often wonder where the years went, it seemed to pass so quickly...it feels almost like a dream, if I could put it like that...my grandmother always used to say "Life is short, make the most of it while you're young", now I know what she meant.
I'm very grateful we still have each other and can do things together, like going away on a bit of a romantic weekend down the South Coast.
Who said you're too old for romance, I might be past "the sell by date" but I'm allowed to dream a little Lol!
Oh my hat!...don't let me start, I might get censored on Hive, Hehe!
At least we are free to go where we like with our precious friends Arthur and Lizelle.
My bestie and me @lizelle, enjoying our retirement at the Blue Marlen Hotel.
I do have my Art which I've neglected a bit lately and need to get back into.
One of my paintings in Acrylic.
The latest one I did a while back, painting keeps me sane, I disappear into another world, writing and painting is something I've always loved to do.
I think if it weren't for my Art and Writing, through this Retirement Journey, I would go bonkers for sure.
The awesome thing about being creative is, one can forget about the world and disappear into another. I find it very therapeutic and good for the soul.
I bumped into Silver Mamma Chef at the Nursery, she told me she's thinking of reopening her Kitchen, she has a health issue and has to start eating whole grain and plant based food.
So she was looking to buy some Medicinal plants to grow in her Herb Garden.
Hopefully Silver Mamma Chef will come up with some new Healthy Menus soon, Lol!
My advice to the younger generation thinking of Retiring?
Think long and hard, make sure your finances are in order, when your investment dwindles, and the purse strings get tighter, that's when life gets tougher.
This is my version of my journey in "Retirement" hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I've enjoyed sharing with you.
Happy Retirement, Until next time, keep healthy and wealthy.
Health is wealth.
