But The Geese Were Loving It ..
I shot this next photo from my home office window.. It was just starting to drizzle as I slid open the window a crack to get a clear photo. I could hear both the drops of rain hitting the side of the house and the (what some would call annoying) sound of Canada Geese squawking in the distance. It sounded like a ton of them of there today. Every year they seem to multiple by two fold if not more.
Of course I braved the rain. I started my walk out to the lake and soon pulled the hood attached to my jacket over my head to help thwart off a little of the dampness. As I approached the edge of the water, the sound of geese grew much louder. Then they spotted me; a perceived predator coming at them from within the misty fog that was surly impairing their vison as well as mine.
I can almost see some light colored clouds in this photo, which I could not see with my naked eye.
There they were, almost 300 geese to my estimation, although it may be well more than that. I didn't feel like counting them. hehe. They began to swim away from the edge and away from me.. the bad thing at the edge of the lake. I hurried up and snapped a few shots. I like the one below the best out of all of them. Some of the geese are swimming fast while others are appear a little lazy and care free. One in the middle, with his/her neck up in the air, is probably alerting the others to my presence.
I am loving how the fog is giving a bit of softness to the edges of the island. And that background almost looks brushed in by hand. I may have to try and paint something like this soon, but not sure how well I will do on the geese. I have never really been all that great at painting animals. I am more of a landscape painter.
After taking a closer look at the photo, I noticed what is probably a crow, raven, or other large black bird, perched at the top of the tree at the center of the island. Guess she's taking in all that beauty and noise too.
One last moment was spent there at the edge of the lake, taking in the sights and sounds, before heading back to get some more work done. I needed to stretch my legs for a minute and this trip was well worth the time spent walking out here. I was first thinking that this was just another dreary day, but it really isn't that bad if I give it a chance. Heck.. knowing me, in a few hours this feeling will fade and I'll go back to thinking that this is just another crappy weather day.
