Memory of Mondays

A giant hug to all the new and not so new participants of Monday Memory, a special greeting to our dear friend @ericvancewalton who week after week joins us in this dynamic that moves our deepest fibers.

Memory of Mondays has become that space where we can all come to talk and get to know each other a little more. How nice it is to know about their lives, stories of progress, overcoming, joys and others that although they have had many setbacks, they have managed to move forward.

Here there is something that I like very much and it is when I have to remember my childhood, that seeing it from afar I feel a great joy because I was definitely happy.

I was born into a humble family in the mountains of Táchira in Venezuela, there we were many siblings so there were no birthday presents, much less the baby Jesus. The older siblings managed to go out to work and buy their own things.

Jejejje.

While that time was coming we had a lot of fun playing with the carousels. For those of you who don't know what this device is, it is a wooden board with wheels made with rollers that my brothers got in the mechanic shops, it also had a brake and a resistant cord in the front that served as a steering wheel.

For us it was total fun because we would go wherever there was more downhill and we would pick up speed, it was definitely pure adrenaline. Hehehehehe.

Then when I was 11 years old I went to live in the village and I had the inseparable company of my cousin Gladys, we were the perfect companions because we were almost the same age.

There was no bicycle in that house either, but there was a place that rented them. Everything had a value, if you wanted it for a whole day or by the hour.

When Gladys and I had money, we rented it on a Saturday afternoon and tried to learn how to ride, she would hold me by the back of the bike while I got my balance.

But one day I was not so lucky, when Gladys let go of the seat my bike swerved and I went into the gutter, my shoulder hit a wall and I fell. When I got up I felt something crack inside me and it hurt. I never thought that something had broken; between the shock and the pain we decided that Gladys would hand over the bike and I went to bed without saying anything.

¡Gladys y yo volvimos alquilar bicicleta y seguimos aprendiendo!

The next day I had no choice but to tell the truth to my aunt and uncle who immediately took me to the clinic where they took an x-ray. The clavicle was completely broken, one bone had been mounted on top of the other.

I was super scared, I thought they were going to open me up to accommodate me, but no, the doctor put a cast in the shape of infinity between my arms and back and ordered me to rest absolutely.

The thing is that after about a month I felt better and guess what?

Gladys and I went back to renting bikes and kept learning!

That was my most difficult experience on a bike, but then with time I learned and became an expert rider.
Then my brothers bought their bikes and I really enjoyed those afternoons with them.

It is for this kind of things that I feel grateful to God and to life, because I lived the most incredible episodes and now when we get together with cousins or my siblings we remember and laugh out loud.

Hello dear @carolinacardoza very nice story. The times of childhood are remembered with much affection even though painful moments have occurred, these events are what make up the experience of life.

Yes it hurt a lot and the pain was enormous but then I lost my fear of cycling and before the cast came off I was riding again and had really learned to ride a bike.

I know the feeling. I used to commute by Mountainbike to and from work and have broken my right clavicle not once but twice after two separate bike accidents. My shoulder hasn't been the same since.

I didn't get a phobia of bicycles, on the contrary, as soon as I could go out on the street we went back to renting bicycles and I learned to ride more cautiously. now it makes us laugh to remember it.

Gosh, you must have been in a lot of pain, thank goodness they did not have to operate @carolinacardoza!

Brave lady, you went right back to riding again, but it sounds like you had loads of adventures riding bicycles.
Wonderful memories Carolina <3
