Happy New Year, everyone! Somehow we have managed to get through another circuit around the Sun, and now the calendar says 2025.
I don't really have much to say about 2024, other than being glad it's over. Too many deaths, major repairs, tragedies and financial calamities. I can only hope that 2025 works out better.
That said, it was a year of building for us, albeit at a glacially slow pace, punctuated by rather more disappointments and tragedies than one could wish for. But that just seems like an inevitable part of life, in this day and age.
Hoping to make 2025 more about simplicity and simplification... the process of taking excess off our plates, both in terms of physical stuff, as well as emotional/psychological stuff.
Spent the first couple of days of the new year doing as little as possible, aside from working on my "2025 Bingo Card" which is sort of a fun way to list a bunch of things you might want to or hope to accomplish in the new year... No pressure, though.
I'm not pretending that I will get it all filled in right away, and that's not even the intention... I'm just going to write in various things, from little to large, and see where it ends up taking me.
Mrs. Denmarkguy has her own that she's working on, and we even some overlap already... so when something gets done, we both get to color in a square.
While on this (inevitable) topic, I have been debating whether I'm going to make a formal "Hive Goals" post this year, but I think I'm going to give it a pass because I have so many goals that are not related to Hive... and I want hive to be my fun relaxation, not like another "job" I have to deal with, every day.
Although time is pretty much just a construct — meaning that August 17th is no more or less "A day" than January 1st — I do like the idea of "drawing a line" and having a new starting point for certain things.
For example, things like a starting point for re-doing a lot of my eBay listings that have become slightly "antiquated," due to the crazy level of inflation, over the past few years.
Much of my energy in 2025 will be given to the "downsizing" process we are going through, all with an eye towards selling our large house in 2026 and moving to somewhere significantly smaller and "lighter" to maintain.
We have loved living where we are, but the combination of property taxes, insurance and maintenance is getting so prohibitive as to no longer be feasible... and now we're both on the north side of 60 and the load is getting too much; or at least getting enough that we find we have little time left over to simply enjoy life.
Of course, I do hope to continue blogging and building my Hive Power here, and hopefully add a bit to the HBD savings balance, as well. But it's challenging to save when you're always living "on the edge," which is why I find Hive such a good way to "passively" invest and save.
With all that said, one of the things I want to focus more on in 2025 is simply enjoying the here and now, rather than always looking to the future to be "better."
And with that thought, I am going to make my present better by getting some sleep.
Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy your first weekend of the new year!
