FROST AND BIRDS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN

in #hive-1064443 years ago

It's a pretty warm day. Nice and sunny with only a few sparse clouds in the sky. That's the situation right now, while I'm writing this post that will be published later in the evening, but ...

(Enlargeable)

... but the morning was cold and the ground around the pond at the edge of town was covered with frost.

(Enlargeable)

While passing by on my usual way to the grocery store ...

img_3626_malo.jpg

... I noticed plenty of birds ...

img_3638_samomalo.jpg

... that looked great in the frosty morning atmosphere.

img_3629_malo.jpg

These seagulls, the Chroicocephalus ridibundus ...

img_3602_malo.jpg

... formed a pretty large bunch near the water.

(Enlargeable)

Most of them were busy taking care of their plumage.

(Enlargeable)

Ducks and mallards were swimming back and forth across the pond ...

img_3560_malo.jpg

... slowly and graciously. Here you can see a male mallard ...

(Enlargeable)

... and this is the female.

(Enlargeable)

The grey heron (Ardea cinerea) was searching for small fish in the shallows on the other side of the pond.

img_3616_malo.jpg

At one point a seagull entered the scene.

img_3570_samomalo.jpg

There is a small floating house not far from where the heron was photographed.

(Enlargeable)

A cormorant was drying his feathers ...

img_3571_samomalo.jpg

... right there, near that small, wooden house.

img_3562_malo.jpg

There is a group of old, tall trees about ten meters from that bank of the pond. On one of those trees, I photographed this Great egret (Ardea alba).

img_3559_malo.jpg

With this photograph, the focus is back on the frostier side of the pond.

(Enlargeable)

A trio of cute white ducks just came out of the water.

(Enlargeable)

This old goose is one of the most iconic inhabitants of the pond.

(Enlargeable)

It's here since ... well, I don't know since when exactly, but it looks like forever.

img_3605_malo.jpg

It's a nice bird that always greets the visitors with a jazzy trumpet sound. In this photograph, the goose is picking a snack from the ground.

(Enlargeable)

While most seagulls were still on the ground ...

img_3599_malo.jpg

... this one was slowly floating near the center of the pond.

img_3597_malo.jpg

In this photograph, the seagull reached the area where the rising sun turned the water into liquid gold 😀or something like that.

img_3613_malo.jpg

When I took another look at the cormorants across the pond ...

img_3614_samomalo.jpg

... two were standing in front of the floating henhouse.

img_3578_samomalo.jpg

Soon one of them swam away.

img_3603_samomalo.jpg

The cormorants can be seen here only in winter. On the coast of the nearby sea, they are present throughout the whole year.

img_3589_malo.jpg

With this photograph, the focus is back on the seagulls.

(Enlargeable)

I spent plenty of time observing them ...

img_3601_malo.jpg

... and so I took plenty of photographs with them as main characters.

img_3607_malo.jpg

This is just a simple portrait against the blurred water in the background.

img_3621_samo_malo.jpg

In this photograph, the frost is nicely accentuated.

img_3595_malo.jpg

Here you can see just one seagull surrounded by mallards.

img_3627_malo.jpg

In this seagull portrait, you can also see a female mallard blurred in the background.

img_3630_malo.jpg

As the minutes were passing, the light of the rising sun was reaching this side of the pond ...

img_3628_malo.jpg

... and soon the scenery became more vivid and colorful.

(Enlargeable)

At one point a woman entered the scene.

(Enlargeable)

She brought the dry bread for the birds ...

img_3653_samomalo.jpg

... and the quiet birds ...

(Enlargeable)

... switched to the feeding frenzy mode.

img_3645_samomalo.jpg

It was a joy to watch ...

img_3655_samomalo.jpg

... and there was plenty of action to photograph.

img_3631_samomalo.jpg

It didn't last long. Only ten minutes or so. And at the end ...

img_3632_malo.jpg

... some feathers were left behind.

AS ALWAYS IN THESE POSTS ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK - THE END.

I have dark memories with the goose duck you shared

Did the geese attack you? The one is this post is nice, but they can be aggressive.

the weather is warm, today is the same as in my country, it looks like the seagull is resting, are you not disturbing the seagull's resting time ...haha

The bird in the photo is quite beautiful when you take a close-up photo

Beautiful collection of birds ❤️ I like seeing seagulls and ducks swimming at sunset moments with cold weather ☁️ it's refreshing for soul

The heron shots are amazing. I love seeing them in nature. They're such a majestic bird and to me, they almost seem like a dinosaur in a way. I think it's because they're so big.

Very cool.

Yes, when bigger birds walk around they look a lot like dinosaurs. And that long neck is also dinosaur-like. The way they move around and watch their surroundings can be seen in CGI dinosaurs that walk on two legs. In movies and documentary reconstructions. The authors probably took birds as a model in many cases. Which makes sense. The evolutionary line from those theropods to the birds is pretty clear.
It's great to be able to see herons from time to time.

wow this is a nice ,so lovely.

This is one of the reasons why I never feel like I can live in a village far from the city

I think I got lost in the end, but what I understand is that it died, only the feather remains, if so it is the law of survival, quite sad but it is still present in these environments full of beautiful birds

Hehehe, no-no. Nobody died on that occasion. A few feathers can fall when the birds are in action. That's what happened here.

Beautiful and cute birds, you found them at the right time, so perfect 🥰🥰

Looks like the ducks and birds there live peacefully. Is that so?
