Horned Grebe

I really like the look of this bird; its colors always make it stand out. The horned grebe can be found across most of Canada. I have often seen them in ponds and on parts of the river in some of the more secluded areas around Calgary. They tend to breed in more temperate zones, which explains why I see them mostly on the hotter days in the summer. They tend to prefer shallow lakes with submerged vegetation, like wetlands and swamps.
