Waiting for winter!

in #hive-1064443 years ago

Soon it will be winter and the stormy rains will return.

You are not going to believe this Zoom power. 13 photos in here to show you some lovely scenes.
We went out to check on the Flamingos, as we had some very light rain here for about 2 hours that signaled winter was on it's way.
Beautiful birds that travel here to please our eyes.
Come and see.

The flamingos fly some 5000+ kilometers from Kenya and other central African countries to get here to the Cape province for their winter breeding season.

I found them in this far strip of water in the lake and let me show you the distance below.

Soon this lake will be filled with water and we will have hundreds of flamingos all over.

The 3 flamingos were asleep on one leg with a lot of birds in the background.

Here is a wider shot of the photo above.

The Heron below was telling a story, but no one was listening. Same in life isn't it :)

At the left of the water strip a bank of seagulls were resting in the heat.

Here's an onward soldiers march.

Many more birds arrived and this lake is a popular spot in the feathered friends community.

Finally here's the thing. That smaller bird in the middle is a new first for me. They are nomads meaning that they travel around.
237.JPG

I have a few photos of that smaller bird, but this post is getting too long to show him here, so he will have to wait for his turn to be posted.
It was impossible to get close to the birds because as soon as one steps out onto the dry mud of the lake bed, then the birds take flight.
So I had to depend on my camera's super zoom and I don't think that it did a bad job.

Once the lake is filled, the birds will be much closer and I am looking forward to get the flamingo babies.
In the following spring season they all disappear by flying to their home countries until their return the following year.
So we have them here now and I have to make the best of it.
Hope that you enjoyed the post.

And That's All Friends.

I love the Flamingo birds, every time we visited Cape Town, we went and watched them from Flamingo park, they are so elegant, yeh!..you're right, some times nobody wants to listen to one. Lovely post and photo @papilloncharity as usual. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you and yes, the Flamingos also fascinate me, so now we are waiting for the winter rains to arrive.
In the meantime I will continue to keep an eye on them and when it is baby time I plan to get the babies on camera.
Very few real listeners about these days 😉

My pleasure to share and glad that you enjoyed the photos.

And there they are! Those lovely leggy flamingoes! I can't wait for those flamingo babies - I hope you spam hive! Mind you the shot you captured of the chattering heron is hilarious! I wonder what the other birds were thinking....

I surely will try to spam hive with the babies, as it is something great to look forward to.
The chattering heron was included as an aside to remind people to listen when someone is talking to them. The one bird was looking at his feet and thought that he would look nice in Nike takkies. The other bird was smelling under his arm to check if his deodorant was still working.
The female bird was thinking about the washing at home that was waiting for her and the other one was thinking about her cheating boyfriend.
Easy to read their thoughts and the wind was whishing that the heron will shut up !LOLZ
