We had a leaking water sprayer.

Birds are clever enough to find a drink anywhere in nature.

Here above you can see that the irrigation sprinkler was leaking and the birds came in to drink the water.

I have seen birds drinking from taps, geyser overflow pipes, and many other strange places. They seek water and they find water. Many roofs have gutters that also do not drain fully, and the birds land in the gutters to have a bath. Rain puddles in the road are also favorite spots.
Come and have a look at the birds landing on the sprayer.

First up, we had a Cape Canary having a drink.

He spotted another bird on its way to the sprayer.

Just before the other bird landed, our Cape Canary took off as you can see.

This one is a Red-eye BulBul.

Once the BulBul was gone, a little Southern Double-collared Sunbird arrived and he did not only have a drink, as he also had a bath, and here you can see him preening.

Very clever, and so cute to see how they behave wherever there is a water availability. I was in fact out looking for mating dragonflies and by chance I saw the first bird landing on the sprayer. So I decided to hang around to see if any other birds would arrive, and I was rewarded for my patience.
I hope that you have also enjoyed the photos and the story.

So true and agreed!

Funny birds. It seems that this source of water is not very convenient for them, and they are forced to figure out how to drink from it.

Hahaha, no, let me tell you that they have all done this before on other sprayers and they know them very well.

Oh dear! That was quite a leak there cousin Stephen! I would never let that pass for long, clean fresh water is too precious (and expensive when getting it from a municipality like I do)
Still I'm glad it didn't go COMPLETELY to waste @papilloncharity

I do agree with you cousin Jerry, but it only leaked for a while as I some people working on the pipeline feed and I think that they were installing new pipes and sprayers.
In the meantime, the birds grabbed the opportunity to slake their thirsts.
