It's said that good things come in pairs, so for this week's SMAP, we have a fitting theme: Two Birds!
The first pair was spotted in a beautiful national park in Spain, Doñana.
Partridges are normally seen in groups, walking in the fields searching for food. These two crossed the road right in front of us. If I recall correctly, the guide told us that when a family is walking, the male usually goes a few meters ahead, to attrack possible predators and keep the rest of the group safe. Thumbs up for the male partridges!
For this next pair, balance is the rule: even in the resting periods!
The male on the right was in eclipse plummage: after the breeding season, they molt their colourful plummage, and for some time their plummage resembles the female one.
The next pair keeps their plummage all year in the same colour:
The working pair was very attentively inspecting the construction around the old city of Dubrovnik; they didn't seem to find any flaws, since they flew away shortly after.
Off to Doñana again!
Among the pine trees, the doves were trying to make my photo harder, but finally was able to snap a few shots.
It's definitely hard to get decent focus with all the small twigs in the way!
And to wrap this post, a species I know @melinda010100 enjoys! ;) You would have a blast here, they were everywhere!
There was a small pond nearby, and this was in Summer, so the magpies were enjoying quick baths every now and then, returning to the shade to preen; hence the ruffled feathers.
No doubts though... they're not in their prime beauty after the baths! 😁😁
