๐ฆ The fieldfare (Turdus pilaris)
๐ Turdus (lat) - Thrush
๐ pilaris the etymology is mysterious, although it is now believed that pilaris in later Latin means simply thrush (Jobling, 2017). However, since lat. "pilus" hair, pilare to remove hair, but pila ball, pilaris anything related to ball, and pilarius is a juggler (and at the same time, the Greek "trikhos" is hair, and "trikhas" is a thrush!), all this puzzling. Two assumptions arise. First: when the fieldfare in summer, how usually pulls earthworms out of the ground, this can be associated with hair removal (pilare). Second: when in autumn and winter the fieldberry picks rowan berries and throws them up, swallows, it may resemble a juggler (pilarius).
Despite the fact that these birds are wintering, they still fly away in winter to where the winter is warmer. Therefore, I very rarely see them in winter in my city, only if the winter is warm.
With the advent of spring, they return to forests and parks. Yesterday I saw a small flock flying through the park, so they are already in the forest.
In spring, they noisily walk on the ground, rustling with dry leaves. In the ground they find their favorite delicacy - worms. But with the advent of summer, these birds become very shy and secretive. And you can only see them when they feed their offspring.
