🦉 The common chaffinch or simply the chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs)

  • fringilla (lat.) - finch; fi nco (Old German), fi nc (Old English)
  • coelebs coelebs (lat.) - single, idle, unmarried

These forest singers are among the first to arrive, in early spring, even when there is still snow. Everything, of course, depends on the weather, for example, this year I met these birds on April 4, but in the past they arrived only at the very end of April. The males arrive first and occupy the territory; songs are actively sung to defend these territories. Then, after about a week, the females arrive.

Females take care of family life; nest building is their concern. They collect building material. what you can see in the photo.
By the way, finches practice polygamy and can have offspring from several females.
