🦉 The common whitethroat or greater whitethroat (Curruca communis)

  • Curruca is an unidentified bird name mentioned in the poems of the ancient Roman poet Juvenal
  • communis (lat.) ordinary, common.

These birds live in the lower tiers of the forest, namely in bushes and branches of fallen trees, as well as in open spaces where there are bushes. Most often I see them in meadows and on the edges of forests.

The bird is very restless and constantly darts back and forth, only occasionally stopping.
What is interesting is that in the spring, at the beginning of May, when these birds arrive, the male begins to build a nest even when he is still single. And before he finds his other half, he can manage to build several nests. And then, having found a female, she chooses the best of his nests and finishes it by lining the inside of the nest with a soft lining.
