🦉 The Siberian stonechat or Asian stonechat (Saxicola maurus)

  • Saxicola (lat ): saxum rock, stone, -cola inhabitant
  • maurus (lat.): Moorish, black

These birds are hard to miss in spring and even in summer. One of their distinctive features is their great love for sitting on the very tops of plants and thickets. The birds themselves live on the ground, where they have a nest. But they always get to the top of the grass or plant to watch over their territory.

And these territories are huge, because they live exclusively in such open spaces as meadows, fields, clearings and forest edges. In my city, these birds inhabit meadows outside the city, where there are more of them. And there are also small open spaces in my favorite forest, and even such small territories are enough for them to live.
