๐ฆ The grey-headed woodpecker (Picus canus), also known as the grey-faced woodpecker
๐ Picus (lat.) woodpecker; in Romanesque mythology, Peak, or Picus, the Roman god of forests and the king of Latium, distinguished by male beauty, rejected the love claims of the sorceress Circe (Kirka), after which the offended Kirka turned him into a woodpecker
๐ canus (lat.) gray
I have not seen these guys for a long time, and this is not surprising, because they are quite rare, and you just meet by chance.
Its voice is difficult to confuse with the voices of other types of woodpeckers. It is melancholic, whistling, and somewhat reminiscent of the voice of birds of prey.
This woodpecker just loves to feast on ants, which is why, in the spring, he mostly spends time in the lower tier of the forest, examining rot and anthills.
