Birds Of Good Fortune [ Entry for prompt #158: Together ]

Just a few mornings ago, me and my mother were up early talking to one another about the good things happening in our lives. It was quite pleasant when I noticed a bird land on the gate on the window behind Mom.

I stopped everything. “Mom, turn slowly. Don’t make any sudden moves. There’s a bird on the window!”

She turned as I’d said and saw the bird, which turned his head sideways to look at us as well.

Soon enough, that bird flew to the other side of the window, and then to the bottom, and another bird joined him. This bird, The Second One, I’ll call her, gazed at us through her dark eyes as well, but she wasted no time before speaking.

The Second One began to tweet rapidly, screeching every once in a while if The First Bird dared to move. It was like they were a team, pearched there together, so the above photo is the one I'm entering in this contest.

This went on for over a minute. Her eye was turned to us, so I assumed this bird was trying to tell us something. We sat quietly through her chirping speech, brief pauses, and continuation of the speech. Eventually, she flew away, and The First One did too.

My mother and I were silent.

“I’m glad you were here to see that too,” My mother turned back to me. “Otherwise I’d probably think I imagined what just happened.”

“I’m glad you told me to take pictures!” I told her. “So now we definitely know that happened!”

And those are the pictures you see here now. I don’t know why those birds were on the window that morning. They could have been trying to tell us a secret message, they could have loved our upbeat vibe so early in the morning. They could have been the birds who we were tossing bread at the park not too long ago. They could have been simply looking for a way to sneak in the house and make a nest, ignoring the two dumbfounded humans living in it. I don’t know if I’ll ever know why they were there for sure, but I’m glad they were there in the first place.
