SMAP Round 70 - Canada Goose Gosling

For this round of the Show Me a Photo contest, I would like to share this image of a young Canada Goose gosling practicing the trademark hiss that those who have ventured too close to a Canada Goose's territory are all too familiar with. This little gosling is just one of many that have made the pond at my apartment complex home. Over the last few weeks, I've been able to watch them grow up from hatchings to the stout little goslings they are today. Only a few weeks ago, they were still gestating under the watchful eye of their mother. Here she is back in early April tending to her nest while her partner stood watch on the other side of the pond.

Here are some of the goslings a couple of weeks after hatching following their mother and learning to feed on the grass that covers the apartment complex grounds. While they are more independent today, at this stage, they would rarely leave their mother's side.

I'm thankful to watch these little ones grow up and enjoy getting to see them each day as I leave and return from work. Though I'm sure they will be just as territorial and aggressive as their parents soon enough, their adorable innocence is a joy to behold, even if it is not destined to last.

Well, they will be territorial when grow up, but still so cute when they are so little. 🙂
