Good day, dear Hivers!
We finally had a little breather this weekend to unwind. This time, we planned to take the kids to the beach so they could play with the sand. My toddler has been enjoying sensory play at school with clay, slime, and sand. One of his wishlist items last holiday was to receive some kinetic sand to play with. He didn't receive any but instead got playdough as an exchanged gift. He was still happy with what he received, but we promised to take him to the beach so he could play with real sand. Last weekend was the day we fulfilled that promise.
As parents, we showed our kids how important it is keeping a promise, not just to others but also to themselves. We wanted them to understand that keeping their word builds not only trust but also bonds and relationships. We also saw it as a perfect opportunity to relax and unwind after a whole week of hard work, creating cherished memories with our children that will become part of their core memories and ours too.
The beach we selected was a two-hour drive from where we live. We have plenty of closer options, but we were looking for a change of scenery. This was our first time exploring this particular place, and the anticipation of discovering new sights added to the excitement of our trip.
The night before our trip, we loaded our bags into the car while the kids excitedly packed the toys they would be using to play. They remembered to pack their toys, but somehow forgot their rashguards, sunscreen, and other swimming accessories. Oh well—remembering the essentials to bring on our travels are me and my husband's assignments.
Since it was a two-hour drive away, we couldn't make it there by sunrise because that was too early for us to be traveling, especially since we would be taking rerouted roads to avoid tolls just for a change of scenery. We opted to schedule our beach time at sunset. Luckily, the sun was not shining so brightly, so they were able to enjoy the beach earlier than scheduled. It was cloudy, but it was fine.
My eldest and his father dug a hole to bury our toddler in the sand. At first, he was squealing with excitement, but he got scared later when he could no longer move because half of his body was buried.
We let him stay there for a little bit before helping him out so he could continue with whatever he was building in the sand.
This was one of the most affordable getaways we've had in a while. There was no need to spend money on renting cottages or boat rentals. We assembled our camping chairs while we watched the kids let their imaginations come into play.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next one!
