See Who Is Here ~ An Introduction Post

in #hive-1080452 years ago

Hi Hive world, I am Jummy Debby but would go by the name Debbyrose for reference purposes on this Blockchain. Well, I have heard a lot about this place and I hope I find true friendship and have a lot of fun while improving my writing skills here. As a Nigerian, I am here for the money too. People believe that Nigerians love money so much. But the question is,Who doesn't love money?

I graduated from one of Nigeria's prestigious universities named University of Ilorin. I studied Pure and Applied Chemistry and graduated some years ago. It is compulsory that after graduating in any Nigerian university, one must serve the nation in what is called Youth Service.

2016 was a year I would not forget in a jiffy. I got called up to serve my fatherland in a south-south state in Nigeria called Bayelsa state. I was quite lucky to be posted there, though ably assisted by my dad's roommate while he was at the University of Port Harcourt. The Osbourne Lake in Yanegoa is one relaxation centre you want to visit when you come to Nigeria.

Family Life

Jummy is the last child in a family of six. I would be easily taken for a model. People have advised me severally to take modelling as a career but I don't have the vibe for such. It is not that I cannot be a model neither did my parents go against it, I just did not find it interesting.

At some point in my life, my athletic side showed up. It was at that point I knew I could overtake Usain Bolt on the tracks. That particular year, I qualified to represent my state, Kwara state, in a national competition somewhere in the north but my parents opposed it. They feared that I may not get to go to school anymore. That dream however died a natural death. No regrets whatsoever though.

First Toast At A Job

After my first degree, I worked for the United Bank for Africa (UBA). Banking jobs are fun. Aside from the fun, people kind of respect you for that kind of a job. I worked in UBA in 2017 through to April 5th, 2018 a disastrous issue occured.

The disastrous events that took place was that a bank robber was carried out and the robbers were so inhumane that they killed dozens of people.

It was a black day for Nigeria as a nation and for Kwarans who were the direct victims of the consequence of that robbery. Till date, that singular experience gives me shivers in my spine.

Five months after the dastardly act, I quitted the banking system. It was a nasty experience to say the least.

Life As Postgraduate Student

I don't like to live a boring life. After I had left the banking job, I became bored because there was nowhere I could go. So, I stayed back and slept everyday until it dawned on me that I could do something tangible with my life.

Straight to my alma mater, the University of Ilorin, I went to obtain a masters degree. I thought it wise that it would serve as a point to get me a job in academics.

One opportunity that walked in on me was when I met people who had attended their first degree programme at other universities in Nigeria and from parts of the world.

The Postgraduate years was full of life for me. I had my parents who were still in support and was boxed up to have as much fun while adding tomy resúme. Studying Pharmaceutical Chemistry is something I had always wanted to do. How those pills are chemically formed and whatnot seems strange but to get to know it is something unique and I was ready to learn all the ropes. I would give anything to do that.
The Nigerian factor made a course I was supposed to take for two years into four years. But I am glad that I successfully ended it in 2020.

Life As A Wife cum Mother

Just while I was considering writing my thesis, my husband came knocking at our door to ask for my hand in marriage.

That's another phase of life for me. My responsibility is not any longer for me alone. I have enjoyed every bit of this new phase however.
In 2021, my husband and I relocated to Lagos. He was transferred from his job to the Lagos office and we have been here since. It has been another experience all together.

I have enough to tell you guys though. Let me draw the curtain here till in my subsequent piece. I am super glad to be here. @mrenglish referred me to where I can make a lot of friends and open my eyes to the outside world.
