Before I begin my post, I would like to say Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there: the stepdad, the dad who adopts kids, the expecting dad, the young men hoping to be fathers some day, and the dads who are not with us anymore. We love you and say thank you for being our heroes.
This blog is mainly to celebrate my dad—the best dad I can ever wish for! I have seen people's fathers and how they treat them, but my dad never abandoned us.
There was a year my dad lost his job. He is an electrical engineer and one of the best in the field, but office politics made him lose his job. After he lost his job, things became so tough that we could barely feed ourselves, and we stopped going to school.
At a time like this, some fathers abandoned their families because the pressure was too much. Actually, the pressure was too much for my dad. He immediately started farming on a small, unused piece of land. He begged the owner of the land, and he was given permission to farm on it. He also started doing manual labor just to feed us. I remember days of him sitting outside, bending his head with his face in his hands. He was a strong man; during that one year, we fed, we had clothes on our bodies, and he never sent us out to beg.
A year after the incident, he got a new job, and our lives took a new turn. After I started working as an adult, I discovered all the pain my dad had to go through just to make us happy.
Last year was March, which was his birthday. We were both in different cities, thousands of miles away from each other. I thought to myself, I have never done anything to celebrate him, so I made plans with my mom and sister, who were home back then, and we got him a very big cake. He was very happy; he prayed and blessed me and my siblings. He took the cake to his office and shared it with his colleagues, telling them how proud he was of his children. The fact is, we are the ones proud of having a father like him.
I started doing more as a son for him, and I’m going to do more for my parent. My dad is our hero, he has done what a good father is meant to do and I would take care of him as a good son is meant to do.
Dad, I love you. I’m happy I came into your family, and I’m glad to have you as a father. Thanks for taking care of me, my siblings, and my mother. You’re one of the best things that has happened to me since I took my first breath on this planet. Happy Father’s Day to you! I wish to be like you when I become a father. You’re the best role model for a father.
