After 17 years working with the same people it is impossible not to create bonds with them and feel them as family, and although at some point the work bond is broken, when the reunion happens it is like time comes back and takes us to the moment when we were all together.
Happy day #familyandfriends friends, I hope you are doing super well. Today I'm stopping by to tell you a little bit about a beautiful experience I had yesterday, that I really didn't expect and that ended up being a blessing, because it wasn't just a simple reunion, it was THE reunion and I'll explain why!
For those who read me for the first time or did not know this part of my life, I am a Lawyer with specialization in Family and Child Law and for 17 years I was part of the Child and Adolescent Protection System of the state of Nueva Esparta as a Protection Counselor in the Municipality Antolin del Campo.
I shared office and responsibilities with two other Counselors, also Lawyers and a team composed of four officials between secretary, archivist, messenger and social worker, and after so many years together you can imagine that we were a small family, with the good and bad of each one, with tense moments but also of joy and satisfaction after each case solved.
But being an Integral System, the Protection Council is just one more link in a great chain of organizations that work together for the benefit of children and adolescents in our state, so I was far from having only six coworkers.
We were part of a huge team that included 10 Protection Councils apart from ours with 3 and even 5 Counselors each, Defenders, Municipal Rights Councils, State Council, Adoption Office, Prosecutor's Offices for Protection and Adolescent Criminal Responsibility, Public Defense, Protection Courts, Homes, in short, an incredible number of people!
Did I know them? YES, ALL OF THEM!
If there was one thing the Protection System had, it was that in its first years we met frequently to try to implement that novel Law (the Lopnna) that changed everything related to Children and Adolescents, and we all got to know each other and formed incredible bonds, not only of work, but also of friendship.
Over time many of us took different paths, some long ago and others a little more recently as in the case of my co-workers and myself, who said goodbye to the Council all together in the month of November 2019 and from that moment to reunite all that pioneering System on the island seemed a distant dream, but dreams come true!
On Monday I received a call from one of the judges of protection to invite me to the celebration for the 23rd anniversary of the LOPNNA, our special law. My first thought was "how strange, Eudy knows I'm not active ", but before I could remind her she told me that the idea was a kind of reunion and the truth is that I couldn't be happier!
To see again not only my office mates, but other great friends that we made during so many years of work and that we lost track of after leaving the Council was just amazing and I immediately contacted my colleagues at Antolin and as in the old days when my car was damaged Fernando picked me up and then we looked for another of our colleagues who despite being a lawyer was also our secretary.
When we got into Fer's car we were transported back in time, as if the years had not passed! With a *"just like in the old days she welcomed me when I got into the car" and not to mention Fidela's joy when we passed by her. She even gave us dulce de lechosa as a gift and we were in that car talking up to our elbows.
And when we arrived at the theater where the event was to take place, the hugs were not long in coming. So many dear people, so many familiar faces that although changed by the many years without seeing each other, it was impossible not to recognize them.
We looked like children going from one place to another, waving our arms at every familiar face, updating phone numbers and of course taking pictures, and I think it was just with that intention that we were invited an hour before the start of the presentations. Because yes, our celebrations were like that, inductions and talks, so we were given the full package and at 9:30 after greeting everyone who passed us by we entered the room to start the day.
Presentations by some already known officials and others whom I was seeing for the first time brought us up to date on the reforms and new developments in the work of the System. Very interesting topics and a general atmosphere that made us feel that we were at home, in the place where we belong even though we are no longer on the same payroll.
And finally, they showed a video that was simply beautiful for those of us who were pioneers in the Protection System. We were able to see again some colleagues who are no longer on this plane and to whom we were undoubtedly united by a special affection. Of course, tears and handkerchiefs were not long in coming, even from the gentlemen. It was truly a beautiful gesture.
At one point a special mention was made to those of us who were part of all this from the beginning and a few moments after hearing my name my cell phone vibrated and it was one of my colleagues from another municipality. Of course, I immediately ran my eyes around the room and a little further back she was waving her arms in greeting. We looked like children!
And as if to close with a flourish there was a little sharing at the end and we were able to reconnect with other friends that we were not able to hug when we arrived.
We said goodbye with the promise to meet again very soon and I believe that this time we will not lose track of each other because the beautiful energy we feel together is something we cannot lose.
I came home like a crazy radio telling my husband about everyone I had met, how they were, what they were doing, I showed him the pictures over and over again... the truth was euphoric and I thank God for the joy of having been part of an incredible team that despite being the first to start up such a huge machine, we did not do it badly at all!

Después de 17 años trabajando con las mismas personas es imposible no crear vínculos con ellos y sentirlos como familia, y aunque en algún punto el lazo laboral se rompe, cuando ocurre el reencuentro es como que el tiempo se devolviera y nos llevara al momento en el que todos estabamos juntos.
Feliz día amigos de #familyandfriends, espero se encuentren súper bien. Hoy me paso por aqui para contarles un poquito de una experiencia hermosa que viví el día de ayer, que la verdad no me esperaba y que terminó siendo toda una bendicion, ya que no fue un simple reencuentro, fué EL reencuentro y ya les explico por qué!
Para los que me leen por primera vez o no conocían esta parte de mi vida, yo soy Abogada con especialización en Derecho de Familia y del Niño y por 17 años formé parte del Sistema de Protección de Niños y Adolescentes del estado Nueva Esparta como Consejera de Protección en el Municipio Antolin del Campo.
Compartía oficina y responsabilidades con otros dos Consejeros, también Abogados y un equipo compuesto por cuatro funcionarios entre secretaria, archivista, mensajero y trabajadora social, y después de tantos años juntos se podrán imaginar que éramos una pequeña familia, con lo bueno y lo malo de cada uno, con momentos tensos pero también de alegría y satisfacción después de cada caso resuelto.
Pero al ser un Sistema Integral el Consejo de Protección es sólo un eslabón más de una gran cadena de Organismos que mancomunadamente trabajan en pro de la niñez y adolescencia de nuestro estado, así que estaba muy lejos de tener sólo seis compañeros de trabajo.
Formabamos parte de un equipo enorme que incluía 10 Consejos de Protección aparte del nuestro con 3 y hasta 5 Consejeros cada uno, Defensorías, Consejos de Derechos Municipales, Consejo Estadal, Oficina de Adopciones, Fiscalias de Protección y de Responsabilidad Penal del Adolescente, Defensa Pública, Tribunales de Protección, Casas Hogares, en fin, un número increible de personas!
Que si los conocía? SI, A TODOS!
Si algo tenía el Sistema de Protección es que en sus primeros años nos reuníamos de manera frecuente para tratar de echar a andar esa Ley novedosa (la Lopnna) que cambió todo lo relativo a la materia de Niños y Adolescentes, y logramos conocernos todos y formar lazos increíbles, no sólo de trabajo, sino de amistad.
Con el tiempo muchos tomamos caminos diferentes, algunos hace mucho y otros un poco más reciente como en el caso de mis compañeros de trabajo y el mío, quienes nos despedimos del Consejo todos juntos en el mes de Noviembre del 2019 y desde ése momento poder reunir a todo ese Sistema pionero en la isla parecía un sueño lejano, pero los sueños se cumplen!
El día lunes recibí la llamada de una de las Juezas de Protección para invitarme a la celebración por el 23 aniversario de la LOPNNA, nuestra ley especial. Lo primero que pensé fué "qué raro, Eudy sabe que no estoy activa", pero antes de alcanzar a recordarle ella me dijo que la idea era una especie de reencuentro y la verdad es que no pude estar más feliz!
Volver a ver no sólo a mis compañeros de oficina, sino a otros grandes amigos que hicimos durante tantos años de trabajo y a los que les perdimos la pista luego de salir del Consejo era simplemente increíble y de inmediato contacté a mis compañeros de Antolin y como en los viejos tiempos como cuando mi carro se dañaba Fernando pasó por mí y luego buscamos a otra de nuestras compañeras que a pesar de ser Abogada también fue nuestra secretaria.
Al subir al carro de Fer fue trasladarnos en el tiempo, como si los años no hubiesen pasado! Con un *"como en los viejos tiempos me recibió al entrar al carro" y ni hablar de la alegría de Fidela cuando pasamos por ella. Hasta dulce de lechosa nos llevó de regalo e íbamos en ese carro hablando hasta por los codos.
Y al llegar al teatro donde se realizaría el acto los abrazos no tardaron en llegar. Cuánta gente querida, cuantas caras conocidas que aunque cambiadas por los muchos años sin vernos era imposible no reconocer.
Pareciamos niños yendo de un lugar a otro, agitando los brazos ante cada cara conocida, actualizamos números de teléfonos y por supuesto tomando fotos y creo que justo con esa intención nos invitaron una hora antes de iniciar las ponencias. Por que sí, nuestras celebraciones eran así, inducciones y charlas, así que nos dieron el paquete completo y a las 9:30 después de saludar a todo el que nos pasaba por el frente entramos a la sala para iniciar la jornada.
Ponencias de algunos funcionarios ya conocidos y otros a los que veía por primera vez nos pusieron al tanto de las reformas y novedades en torno al trabajo del Sistema. Temas bien interesantes y un ambiente en general que nos hizo sentir que estabamos en casa, en el lugar al que pertenecemos aunque ya no estemos en la misma nómina laboral.
Y para finalizar pasaron un video que para los que fuimos pioneros en el Sistema de Protección fue simplemente hermoso. Pudimos ver nuevamente a algunos compañeros que ya no están en éste plano y a los que sin lugar a dudas nos unía un cariño especial. Por supuesto las lágrimas y los pañuelos no tardaron en llegar incluso en los caballeros. Fue realmente un gesto hermoso.
En un punto se hizo mención especial a los que formamos parte de todo esto desde el inicio y unos instantes después de escuchar mi nombre vibró mi celular y era una de mis compañeras de otro municipio. Por supuestocde inmediato recorrí la sala con mis ojos y un poco más atrás estaba ella agitando los brazos saludando. Es que parecíamos niños!
Y como para cerrar con broche de oro hubo un pequeño compartir al final y nos pudimos reencontrar con otros amigos a los que no pudimos abrazar al llegar.
Nos despedimos con la promesa de reunirnos muy pronto y creo que esta vez no nos perderemos la pista porque la energía tan linda que sentimos al estar juntos es algo que no podemos perder.
Llegué a casa como un radio loco contándole a mi esposo de todos con los que me había encontrado, cómo estaban, qué hacían, le mostré las fotos una y otra vez... la verdad estaba eufórica y agradezco a Dios la dicha de haber sido parte de un equipo increíble que a pesar de ser los primeros en echar a andar tremenda maquinaria no lo hicimos nada mal!
